The Three Village Patriots squared off against the Hauppauge Eagles at Ward-Melville Senior High School in a double header on Sunday.
Three Village came out firing in the first inning of game one. After Rowan Golub got on base with an infield single, Jackson Aplustille brought him home with an RBI triple. Daniel Cormish then drove in Aplustille with an RBI single.
Christian Rivera contributed to the lead with a two RBI double, and a bases loaded walk to Dean Kelly gave the Patriots a 5-0 lead after the first inning.
Hauppauge’s Mike Crafa chipped away at the lead with an RBI single, and Mike Hoeler reaching on a fielder’s choice, the score was 5-2.
After two RBI singles in the third inning from Cameron Curti and Ronan Youngs, the Patriots took a 7-4 lead after three innings.
Alex Sangiorgi ripped a two RBI double in the top of the fourth inning to bring the final score to 10-5 in favor of Three Village, securing them a victory in game one.
Game two saw more of the same offensive firepower from Three Village. New starting pitcher Anthony Boris started off hot with a one-two-three first inning.
Back-to-back RBI singles from Cormish and Youngs along with a wild pitch gave the Patriots a quick 3-0 lead after the first inning. After Boris dealt another scoreless inning, Three Village turned up the heat in the bottom of the second.
Nicholas Failla started it off with an RBI single, followed by three consecutive RBI at-bats from Aplustille, Cormish and Youngs. Three Village’s lead was extended to 8-0 in what felt like the blink of an eye.
Aplustille and Sangiorgi were the ones to plate the nails in the coffin for Hauppauge with RBI singles in the bottom of the fourth. Bringing the lead to 10-0, thus enforcing the mercy rule and giving the Patriots the victory once again, sweeping the double header.
