Big First Inning Pushes Dodger Nation Walsh Over Nats in Game 2 of Double Header

by Nicholas Cipolla

Dodger Nation decided not to wait until the later innings to score some runs, but they decided to score six of their seven runs in the first inning in game two against the Merrick Nats.

After winning the first game on a walk-off triple, the Dodger Nation bats came to play in the first inning.

Back to back singles from Anthony Agosta and Luke Costanzo got things going for Dodger Nation. Phillip D’Aguanno brought Agosta home with an RBI infield single to make it 1-0. Zachary Schnabel made it 3-0 with a 2 RBI Triple into the right field gap.

James Martin kept the hit parade going with an RBI single to make it 4-0. Next up was Nick Schimmel, who hit a 2 run bomb over the left field wall to put an exclamation point on a six run first inning for Dodger Nation.

In the second inning, Dodger Nation got one more run when Andrew Moy scored on a throwing error by the Nats second baseman.

In the third inning, the Nats started to chip away at the lead. Matthew Rivera scored on a wild pitch to give the Nats their first run of the game. Christopher Lynch hit an RBI single to make it a 7-2 game. Jake Edwards hit a 2 out RBI infield single to extend the inning and make it a 7-3 game.

The Nats got one more back in the 4th courtesy of Jack Koch who fought off a fastball into right center field for an RBI single to make it a 7-4 game.

Unfortunately for the Nats, Zachary Schnabel pitched a clean 5th and final inning to secure the win for Dodger Nation.

A noteworthy thing to mention is Merrick Nats pitcher Jake Edwards had a fantastic last 2 innings of work where he struck out 6 straight batters. A pretty impressive feat that doesn’t happen too often.
