LI Strong Dominates in Boys of Summer Perfect Game Collegiate Championship Game

by Nicholas Cipolla

After a long wait to see who they would be playing in the championship game, LI Strong proved to everyone that they were the best of the best in the 2021 Boys Of Summer Perfect Game Collegiate league.

The LI Strong won the championship game by a score of 7-0 as they dominated the entire game from start to finish.

The scoring started in the bottom of the first as Kyle Strovink mashed an RBI double to right center to make it a 1-0 game. On the next pitch, Brian Forbes hit an RBI Ground Rule Double to make it a 2-0 game.

Danny Deutsch kept his hot streak from the semi-final game going as he hit an RBI single that went between first and second and into right field.

In the third inning with two outs, Corey Tingo made an incredible heads up play as he made a diving play on a ground ball and decided to throw behind the runner at third. He caught the runner sleeping a few feet off third and was able to get the third out of the inning.

In the bottom half of the third, Michael Gunning dropped a nuke into the Baseball Heaven parking lot to make it a 4-0 game in the bottom of the third.

In the fourth inning, Bobby DiCapua worked in and out of a bases loaded no out jam, allowing no runs to cross the plate for the Tides.

DiCapua, a former County Champion at West Islip, had a stellar outing today. Going 6 innings, allowing 6 hits, no runs, 3 strikeouts and most importantly was the winning pitcher in the championship game.

LI Strong added three more runs in the fifth inning, putting this game even further out of reach. Kyle Strovink made it 5-0 with an RBI single to right. Brad Sackellarides made it 6-0 when he hit an RBI single to left field. Danny Deutsch made it 7-0 with a sac fly.

In the top of the seventh, Tyler Soloman came on in relief of DiCapua and threw a shutout inning, securing the championship for LI Strong.

A long summer of baseball for many of Long Island’s Collegiate baseball players has once again unfortunately come to an end. It was a great year full of many amazing moments that have many people (myself included) excited to see what next summer has in store for Long Island Collegiate baseball. Especially in the Boys of Summer Perfect Game Collegiate league.
