Marcus Harrison, LI Red Dogs Cruise to 9-3 Win Over Arsenal

by Gabe Zoda

The PAL Complex was home to some more LI Boys of Summer action as on the 13th, the LI Red Dogs took on the Tri State Arsenal in a single game.

This game showcased some pretty good action from both sides and showed off both good pitching and good hitting

At the end of the game it would be the LI Red Dogs who would take home the win by the score of 9-3. In this game they would get hot on the offensive side and never look back. Their pitching was able to shut the door in clutch spots and hold the Arsenal at bay at key spots as well.

The first runs came in the top of the first from the Red Dogs. They would score 2 in this inning and it all started with Starting Pitcher J.C Gamble. He would leadoff the game and get on base after an E-7. He would steal 2nd then come around to score the game’s first run.

He was then driven in by Tommy Rizzuto, who grounded a ball through the infield to make the score 1-0 early. Tommy’s twin, Gianni Rizzuto would end up getting his brother to score after an E-8 that increased the early lead to 2-0.

After the Arsenal were unable to score any in the bottom of the first, the Red Dogs looked to continue to stay hot on offense and they would be able to do exactly that. In the top of the 2nd, they would tack on two more insurance runs to make it 4-0.

Marcus Harrison would start off in this inning with a base knock. He would then be followed up by another single from Peter Madden to make it first and 3rd with nobody out.

The Bases would then be loaded after Sam Powell worked a quality at bat that ended in a walk. The first run of the inning came when another error during Matt Infranco’s AB allowed Marcus to come in from 3rd.

The 3 batter for the Red Dogs, Ryan Lau, would walk in the 4th run of the game for the Red Dogs right after.

Heading into the bottom of the 2nd, the score was 4-0 and the Tri-State Arsenal knew they had to respond now if they were going to have a chance at this comeback. They Most definitely responded, in fact they would put up 2 runs in this inning and cut the lead in half  from 4-0 to 4-2.

Jason Yuen and Vito Lonardo would start the inning off with positive outcomes as they would both get on by Hit By Pitches.

After them, Matt Lembo and Joe Loscala would reach base with 2 BBs. Joe Loascala’s walk brought in Jason Yuen for their first run of the game. They wouldn’t have to wait much longer as 2 batters later, they would get their 2nd.

This time it was the top of the lineup guy in Chris Chase who would walk home Matt Lembo to make it a 4-2 ballgame heading into the 3rd inning.

After all the action in the early part of the game, it would be quiet in the 3rd as both sides were able to ward off any offense from their opponents.

In the top of 4th, the hot offense would be held scoreless once again after the Tri-State Arsenal went to their hard throwing reliever, Peter Scala. He would record 3 strikeouts in the inning and give their team the opportunity to come back in this ballgame.

They would use this opportunity to claw back and get one more run back in the bottom of the 4th.

In this inning, Vito Lonardo would start things off with a BB. He would move over to 3rd base after 2 stolen bases. Matt Lembo now just had to get a ball in the outfield and he would do exactly that. The Sac Fly from Lembo would allow Lonardo to score easily to cut the lead once again to 4-3 to end the 4th inning.

Heading into the top of the 5th, the Red Dogs knew they had to regain some distance in between them and the Arsenal. They also needed to stop their momentum and they would do that by scoring 2 runs in the top of the 5th.

The first of those 2 runs came off the bat of Joey Scarapicchia. He would drive one into the outfield and allow Gianni Rizzuto (who reached on a walk and then stole 2nd) to score from second.

The next batter, Lucas Goldberg, would move Scarapicchia to 3rd after a single to center field and Joey Scarapicchia would then come in to score when Marcus Harrison grounded one to the right spot to get in the run.

With those two runs coming in, the LI Red Dogs would be up 6-3 going into the bottom of the 5th and the Arsenal were coming off of those last two innings where they had scored runs.

The LI Red Dogs would go to Relief Pitcher, Marcus Harrsion, to shut the door. Harrison would do a really good job in the last 2 innings of the game and got out of a bases loaded situation in the 5th. But even though the Red Dogs kept the LI Arsenal scoreless in the 5th and 6th doesn’t mean they were done scoring themselves.

In the top of the 6th, they would put their final stamp on the game when they added 3 more runs. Those 3 runs came off the bat of one player, Tyler Giordano. His bases loaded 2B cleared the bases and drove in Sam Powell, J.C Gamble, and Ryan Lau (who all reached on walks). That would make the score 9-3 and that’s where the scoring would end.

The game would end after the 6th due to the 2 hour time limit. The Red Dogs (10-0) continue their strong season with that win and the Tri-State Arsenal (1-4) look to get back on track on sunday the 18th against the South Shore Sharks.
