Titans Pull Off Wild Comeback In a Crazy Game vs Longhorns

by Nicholas Cipolla

The Titans entered the bottom of the 5th inning down by five runs and not having any answers for the Longhorns bats or Grayson Aristy. That’s when everything changed and the Titans made an incredible comeback after looking dead in the water the previous few innings.

The first 4 and a half innings were all Longhorns. Starting pitcher Grayson Aristy executed a perfect suicide squeeze to give his team an early 1-0 game in the top of the second.

That same inning, the Longhorns pulled off a nicely executed first and third double steal to make it a 2-0 lead. A few pitches later, Cole Paulsen got one of his two RBIs in this game with a line drive to right field that scored the runner from second, pushing the lead to 3-0.

Grayson Aristy kept the Titans off the board and he was throwing a gem. Aristy was through 4 innings of the game allowing only 2 hits and 3 strikeouts.

Cole Paulsen hit an RBI groundout to knock in another run in the 5th, a second run scored as the runner was advancing to third and the first baseman threw the ball away, giving the Longhorns a commanding 5-0 lead.

The Titans finally figured out Aristy in the 5th inning as they put runners on for Jake Burtztyun. Burtzyun hit a ground ball to first where the first baseman elected to get the out at first, allowing a run to score.

Eddie Schiff kept it going with an RBI single to right field making it a 5-2 game.

The Titans loaded the bases with two outs as Sal Impennato stepped up to the plate and had arguably the most clutch hit of the day for the Titans as he smacked a triple that got over the center fielder’s head, clearing the bases and tying the game at 5.

The Longhorns got the lead back when Andrew Masano scored from third on a wild pitch in the top of the 6th with two outs. They looked like they were going to escape with a win.

But the Titans didn’t come all the way back just to lose by one run. Lucas Hubner singled to lead off the inning. Andrew Lopez also singled and Jason Creegan drew a walk to load the bases with no one out.

The Longhorns got the first out on a ground ball to the pitcher, stopping the runner from third from scoring. Fred Klauk came up and did his job as he hit a chopper to second base that wasn’t fielded cleanly, allowing him to reach first base and scoring the tying run making it 6-6.

Ethan Schiff stepped up to the plate with the opportunity to win the game. However, he never got the opportunity to put the ball in play as the second pitch of the at bat was a wild pitch and Jason Creegan came sprinting home from third base, scoring the winning run for the Titans in walkoff fashion.
