Boyle, Lake Combine for 11 Strikeouts in Victory over LIB Vexxum

by Nicholas Cipolla

Tonight just seemed to be one of those nights where everything seems to click for the Long Island Jr Ducks.

The Ducks never trailed in a 7-2 win over the LIB Vexxum tonight.

Pitching wise, it was hard to determine who had a better performance on the mound tonight.

Michael Boyle was dominant through three innings of work, so when Riley Lake came on in relief in the fourth inning, it puzzled a few people at first. But Lake proved to be equally as dominant over the final three innings

Boyle finished with a stat line of 3 innings pitched, no hits allowed, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. He also provided some offense as he hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to make the score 1-0.

Lake had an impressive 3 innings of work in relief only allowing 2 hits, 2 runs, and 5 strikeouts. Ironically, Lake was the runner who scored on the Michael Boyle sacrifice fly in the first inning.

Offensively, the Ducks always seemed to execute perfectly with runners in scoring position. Outside of Boyle, Anthony Caracciolo had a sacrifice fly of his own in the 4th inning to make it 2-0.

The very next batter, Bryan Aguayo, had a 2 out RBI single to the third baseman to make it a 3-0 affair.

The Ducks broke the game open in the bottom of the 5th, starting with a 2 run double to left field by Arjun Joseph. Two batters later, Zachary Colon hit a bomb to left that was about 10 feet away from clearing the wall in left, settling for an RBI double to score Joseph.

With 2 outs in the bottom of the 5th, Jason King ripped a rbi single to left to make it 7-0, giving his pitcher (Riley Lake) all the run support he needed going into the last inning of the game.

For LIB Vexxum, they managed to load the bases in the top of the 6th and with two outs, Domenick Romano hit a ground ball up the middle that got through the infield for a 2 run single to make the score 7-2. Derek Duncan had a solid outing on the mound, only allowing one run in 3.1 innings of work.
