Long Island Strong proved the old saying “you can’t win with just one guy” wrong today, as they went out and dominated as a team in their 9-1 mercy rule win today against Yeti Baseball.
Offensively, the bats showed up in the first inning and didn’t cool off at all throughout the game. The first runs of the game were knocked in on a two out, two run RBI single between third and short by Jackson Vaccariello, who advanced to second on the throw to the plate. The next batter, A.J Giel, reached on a throwing error allowing Vaccariello to score from second.
In the next inning, Long Island Strong once again benefitted in a second and third, two out situation. This time it was Justin Quillo slashing a line drive between third and short to knock in two and make it a 5-0 game.
A.J Giel found himself at the plate once again in the third to knock in another run. And he did so with a RBI single to make it a 6-0 affair. Another throwing error on a ball hit by Ryan Schofield allowed Giel to cross the plate and make it 7-0.
In the bottom of the fourth (and ultimately the last time they were able to get to the plate) the starting pitcher for Long Island Strong, Frankie Kentoffio, put the game into mercy territory with a two run double that bounced all the way to the left field wall, making the score 9-1.
Pitching wise, Long Island Strong pitching allowed only 1 hit over five innings, and kept Yeti hitless through 4.1 innings of play. Starting pitcher Justin Kentoffio went 3 innings, allowing only two base runners (2 walks), and striking out 3. Ryan Palm held Yeti to no runs despite walking the bases loaded. Jake Rosado closed out the game for Long Island Strong.
Tyler Blasco had one of the only positive moments for Yeti baseball as he recorded their only hit of the game and scored on a crazy play at the plate where he made a juke move that would’ve made Josh Harrison smile.
