Farmingdale Greendogs Hang On For 3-1 Win over South Shore Sharks

by Benjamin Diamond

The game between the 9u Farmingdale Greendogs and the South Shore Sharks turned into a pitcher’s duel very quickly. After one run was scored for both sides on a wild pitch for the Sharks to take an early lead in the top of the first, the Greendogs responded with an RBI single by Nick Thurston. The pitchers for both sides held the game at a 1-1 stalemate until the bottom of the fifth inning. The starter for the Greendogs, DiBlasi, going 4.0IP, with 3 hits allowed, 1 run, 1 walk, and 9 strikeouts before being replaced by Mike LoGerfo who held the Sharks hitless in two innings of work, striking out 4 and walking 1.

On the flip side, Sharks starter Luke Bischoff had a great start, only allowing one run through the first four innings before having two other runs added to his line in the fifth when he was taken out. His final line was 4.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, and 8 Ks. The final line for Bischoff doesn’t display how well he pitched to keep his team in the game. He was replaced by Mason Montanez who allowed a walk and a hit in only a third of an inning which allowed the third run for the Greendogs to score, which would ultimately hold up.

There were a few notable hitters for each side even though the game was a pitcher’s duel for the most part. For the Greendogs, some notable hitters include, the starting pitcher DiBlasi who went 1-for-2 with a single and a walk. Ferraiolo was also 1-for-2 but his single scored two runs for the Greendogs giving them the lead to seal the game, and Nick Thurston was 1-for-2 with an RBI single. The only notable hitter on the Sharks side was Chris M. who went 2-for-2 with two singles, and was the only run to score for the Sharks. The pitching for the Greendogs was on point only allowing the Sharks to reach base four times throughout the entire game.
