While it might not be as fruitful as the 2019 season in which several teams were competing for conference championships and NYIT reached the Division-II World Series and LIU Post fell just short, we still were treated to a great – albeit shortened – 2021 collegiate season. Here we are on Memorial Day Weekend and we have two Division-I teams, one Division-II and one Division-III team still alive.
Here’s what’s on tap:
Division-I:
–Stony Brook will host the America East tournament beginning this afternoon. The No. 1 Seawolves will host Maine beginning at 11am. The teams did not face each other this season, but Stony Brook has a 51-31 record against them all-time. Expect Sam Turcotte to get the start for the Seawolves. He has a 2.53 ERA on the season. Stony Brook is 29-17 on the season.
–LIU will face No. 1 seed Bryant in the NEC Tournament beginning at noon. The Sharks enter with a record of 20-13. Their staff ace has been Alec Huertas lately but Mike Lazos has a record of 7-1. Should they have the lead late, they won’t hesitate to turn it over to closer Rob Griswold who has been outstanding all season with a 0.68 ERA over 26.1 IP.
Division-II:
-Fresh off capturing the ECC Championship last weekend against St. Thomas Aquinas, Molloy will face another challenge in the NCAA East Regional against powerhouse Franklin Pierce in Rindge, NH at 3pm. The Lions enter with a record of 21-9 and a high-powered offense that has a team AVG of .335. Molloy will either start Tim Panetta or Charlie Cucchiara.
Division-III:
–USMMA will play Eastern Connecticut in the Auburn Regional at 11am. We will have live coverage of the game. Eastern Connecticut is the No. 14 ranked team in the region but USMMA is 16-3 and will have their ace Joe Raab on the mound.
