Division-I:
St. John’s split a DH with Butler losing the first game, 4-1, but winning the second game, 9-4. In the win, the Johnnies trailed 2-0 entering the fourth inning, but Colin Wetterau tied it up with a two-run single and they took the lead on a two-run single by Chris Conniff. Marty Higgins‘ RBI single in the seventh was their 5th run and proved to be the winning run. Tim Cunningham earned the win in relief for the Johnnies. Joe Joe Rodriguez and Ethan Routzahn combined to lock down the final 2.1 IP. Brian Morrell led the offense with three hits. They will close out their regular season next weekend with a four-game series against Villanova.
Fordham split their DH with La Salle, capturing the first game by the score of 4-2 but losing the second game, 8-4. In the win, ace Matt Mikulski got the call and he was his dominant self. He struck out 10 in a complete game effort, allowing just 4 hits and two runs. He gave up a two-run double in the second inning but was lights-out after that. The Rams tied it up in the fourth on a sac fly by Zach Selinger and took the lead on an RBI single by Jack Harnisch. They added an insurance run on a wild pitch in the sixth. Fordham only had five hits with no player notching multi-hits. They will close out their series today at noon.
Stony Brook split their DH with UMBC losing the first game, 8-7, but winning the second game, 13-1. In Game 2, the game was close – 2-1 in the fifth when the Seawolves broke it open. Shane Paradine hit a two-run shot to make it 4-1 and Stanton Leuthner hit a solo shot in the sixth to make it 5-1. They added three more homers – Brad Hipsley, John Tuccillo and Evan Giordano to break the game open. Hipsley had five RBI on the day. Nick DeGennaro did not allow an earned run over 7.0 IP to earn the win and Andrew Ledbetter struck out three over two shutout innings to slam the door. They will close out their series today with another DH. Stony Brook will then play Binghamton next weekend to close out their regular season.
LIU crushed Farleigh Dickinson by the score of 18-2. The Sharks notched 14 hits and drew 11 walks. Chris Wasson continued his great season with 3 hits and two runs scored and an RBI. Ryan Mullahey had two hits and 5 RBI. Colin Adams drew four walks. Mike Andreoli threw two shutout innings of relief to earn the win. They will close out their series today at noon. Sharks will close out their regular season next weekend against Merrimack.
Hofstra split their DH with Towson, losing the first game by the score of 8-5, but winning the second game, 6-4, to break their losing streak. In the victory, Jack Jett started and earned the win. He fired a complete game, allowing three ER on four hits and four walks with 11 punch outs. His offense backed him early with a three-spot. Austin Gauthier led off with a home run, Rob Weissheier hit one two batters later and Will Kennedy drove in Anthony D’Onofrio with an RBI double. They added three more in the fourth inning on an RBI triple by Brian Goulard, RBI double by Austin Gauthier and RBI triple by Santino Rosso. They will close out their series and season with Towson today at 1pm. They
Division-II:
Queens had their season ended by St. Thomas Aquinas by the score of 7-3. They actually led 2-0 after one on an E2 and an RBI single by Brad Sakellarides. That lead held up until the fifth when STAC put up two on the board and added a four-spot in the sixth inning. Anthony Maisano broke the game open with a bases-clearing triple. Liam Pulsipher pitched well but was tagged with the loss – he went 5.2 IP, allowing three ER. For the Knights, their season ends with a record of 14-13. Their future appears bright the next few seasons being that their team was extremely young this year and many of their key players were freshmen and sophomores.
Molloy advanced via no-contest against Mercy as they had COVID issues within the program. The Lions will face St. Thomas Aquinas next weekend in a best-of-three for the right to capture the ECC Championship
