Division-I:
Fordham split a double header against the Saint Joseph’s University Hawks. The Rams took the first game 3-1in 7 innings, their first win since April 13th. Matt Mikulski started the game and threw all 7 innings, striking out an absurd 15 batters on the afternoon. He allowed one run on 2 hits and gave up three walks.
2B CJ Vazquez finished 3 for 4 with one run scored. Teammates Jason Coules (1 for 2), Alvin Melendez (1 for 4) and Nick Labella (1 for 2) all had RBI hits on the day. For SJU, Andrew Cossetti was the only one who could damage Makulski by hitting a solo homerun.
The Hawks, however, ran away with game two with an 11-1 victory. Fordham again got 6 hits but only scored once. They also had 3 errors on defense.
Andy Semo (1 for 2) drove in the lone run. He hit an RBI single to rightfield that scored Labella (1 for 2).
Most of the scoring for SJU came against starter Garrett Crowley (3-2), who only lasted 1.1 innings. The Hawks scorched Crowley in the second inning for 8 runs on 8 hits. Cameron Knox pitched 3.2 innings in relief, allowing another 3 runs on 7 hits.
The NJIT Highlanders swept the Stony Brook Seawolves. SB lost both games narrowly by just a run a piece. In game 1, the Seawolves were nearly brought to victory thanks to Evan Giordano, who finished 2 for 4 with two RBI’s and a run scored. Chris Hamilton and Stanton Leuthner each added an RBI, while Cole Durkan went deep. All three players, along with Brett Paulson and Evan Fox, scored a run each.
Stony Brooks 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning was quickly erased by the Highlanders, who scored 5 of their 6 runs in the bottom half. SP Sam Turcotte (5-2) wasn’t charged with any of NJIT’s 5 runs, but he did get the loss. He threw 2.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 walks. SB lost 6-5 in 7 innings.
In game 2, the Seawolves came back from a 2-0 deficit, but it was too little, too late. Having trailed since the 4th inning, Stony Brook scored both of their runs in the top of the sixth. Paulson (2 for 4) drove home Shane Paradine and John LaRocca with a 2 RBI single.
Jared Milch (3-2) was given the loss. He pitched 7 innings for Stony Brook, allowing 7 hits and earning 2 of NJIT’s 3 runs with him on the mound. The Highlanders one run against Milch in the 7th that decided the game was unearned, due to an error in CF. Ben Fero pitched one inning for SB, collecting one K. The Seawolves lost game two, 3-2.
Despite a 5-4 victory on Friday against Seton Hall, St. John’s lost both games of the double header vs the Pirates by wide margins. In game one, the Red Storm lost 11-1. Their lone run came in the bottom of the fifth. Carson Bartels (1 for 3) scored from third on an error.
SP Ian Murphy (2-3) was pulled after just 1.1 innings, in which he 1 run on 1 hit. Out of the bullpen, Matt Semon allowed 6 runs on 6 hits. In 4.2 innings, he walked 3 batters, gave up 4 runs in the fifth inning and 2 in the sixth. Seton Hall tacked on another 4 runs in the top of the 7th against Geoff Mosseau. Mosseau allowed 4 ER on 3 hits and 2 walks in just 1 IP.
Game two was even more painful for the Red Storm, as they fell 19-4 in just 7 innings.
St. John’s had a 3-0 lead after the first, but went behind 8-3 thru 4 innings. Seton Hall piled on in the 6th and 7th innings, scoring 3 and 8 runs, respectfully. Their 19 runs came on 17 hits.
Brian Hendry (L, 1-2) started for the Red Storm and allowed 5 ER in just 3.2 innings. Another 3 runs scored while he was one the mound for a total of 8 runs on 6 hits. Tim Cunningham (1.2 IP, 2 ER) and Ben Adams (1 IP, 6 ER, 8 R, 7 H) were also beaten up by the Pirates in relief.
In two games versus Sacred Heart University, the Long Island University Sharks lost the first and won the second. They were beaten easily in game one, 9-3.
Jackson Svete (1-3) pitched the first 4.2 innings of the 9 inning contest. SHU scored 9 runs on 8 hits off of Svete. 6 of the runs were ER. He struck out 5, walked 4, and threw 3 wild pitches.
Michael Andreoli took over in the fifth inning and threw 4.1 scoreless innings. He gave up just 3 hits to the 15 batters he faced, and also allowed 1 walk with one strikeout.
Giovanni Ciaccio had an RBI groundout to score Andy Camilo in the 2nd inning. They scored other two runs also in that inning off of Killian Bloat’s 2-run homer. EJ Exposito finished 3 for 4.
In game 2, LIU came away with the 5-3 win. The Sharks finished with 11 hits. They took an early 2-1 lead in the first inning off of back-to back hits. Christopher Wasson (2 for 4, 2 runs, 1 RBI) brought in Exposito (2 for 4, 2 runs, 1 RBI) on a single to LF. Colin Adams (1 for 3, 2 RBI) then doubled to left center to bring home Wasson.
After falling behind 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning, LIU again took the lead back in the following frame. Adams flew out to RF to score Exposito and Cade Biddle (1 for 4) earned an RBI with a double to score Wasson.
SP Joshua Loeschorn had 6 K’s in 4.1 IP but allowed 3 runs, 5 hits and 2 walks. Mike Lazos (6-0) replaced Loeschorn for 2.2 scoreless innings and was the winning pitcher. Rob Griswold earned his 4th save by pitching the last 1.2 innings.
Hofstra swept their double header against Towson. In the 5-2 game one victory, SP Jimmy Joyce threw 7 innings in the 8.5 innings played. He finished with 10 strikeouts, 2 runs given 5 hits, and 2 walks. John Mikolaicyk earned his 3rd save by pitching the final inning. He gave up one hit and struck out one batter.
Austin Gauthier has a great day at the plate by going 3 for 3 with 3 RBI and a run scored. He hit a double and a 2-run homerun.
In Game 2, the Pride won a nail bitter by walking off in the bottom of the 11th inning to win 8-7. Down 3-1 in the bottom of the 8th inning, Anthony D’Onofrio hit a clutch 2 RBI single that would force the game into extra innings.
Then, having fallen behind 3 runs in the 10th, Hofstra scored 3 runs themselves to tie it again. Rob Weissheier (6-6, 3 doubles, HR, 3 RBI) hit a 2-run homerun to LF and Nick Marrero doubled to left for the tying RBI. They fell behind one last time in the 11th before Gauthier’s RBI single tied it up, leading the way for Weissheier’s walk-off single to RF.
Division -II
Molloy’s double header vs Saint Thomas Aquinas College saw the teams win a game apiece. Game 1 resulted in a loss for Molloy, 6-2. Lions SP Charlie Cucchiara (1-2) was good, but still lost this game. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits over 4 IP along with 5 K’s. Billy Wildeman also pitched 4 innings, but allowed 3 ER in relief on 6 hits.
In game one, many Molloy players made an impact on offense, but they just couldn’t score many runs. That definitely changed in the second game, when the Lions went on to win big, 13-12, in a wild comeback.
Once again, Molloy pitching struggled. Christop Wiercinski (1.2 IP, 6 ER), Peter Theodorellis (2.1, 3), and AJ Vera (3.0, 1) combined to allow 15 hits.
Needless to say, STAC’s staff wasn’t much better. The Lions had 14 hits of their own. They were down 10-2 thru 4 innings before going off for 8 runs in just the 5th inning. Molloy scored 1 run in the 6th to lead 11-10, fell behind in the top of the 7th 12-11, but then walked-off in the bottom of the 7th.
Matt Overton (3 for 5, 1 run) had the game winning RBI single to RF. James Messina finished 3 for 4 (1 R, 1 RBI), Sean Hogan was 2 for 5 with 3 RBI and a triple. Jake McCarthy (2 for 5, 1 R, 2 RBI) and Robert Iadanza (1 for 3, 1 R, 2 RBI) also had crucial hits in this game.
The Panthers of Adelphi won both of their double header games against The College of Saint Rose. Adelphi dominated game one, winning 13-1.
The team scored their 13 runs on 13 hits. Matt Alifano, Tim Feliz, Jack Ryan, and Michael Draskin batted 1-4 and all had 2 RBI each. Tyler Becker and Cooper Johnson both were hitless, but still reached base and scored multiple times each. Becker drew 3 BB’s and scored 2 runs to Johnson’s 2 BB’s and 2 runs.
In 9 innings, Adelphi utilized SP Nicolas Luc (W, 3-2) and Kevin Glasser. Luc threw 7 innings allowing 1 run. He gave up 5 hits and struck out 5 while not giving up any walks. Glasser pitched the final two innings, also striking out 5 batters and giving up 0 hits or walks.
Josh Rovner started for the Panthers in game two and allowed just 1 run on 6 hits in 4.1 IP with 3 K’s. he was relieved by Michael Storms (2-0), who earned the win by throwing 2 scoreless innings. He allowed just 1 hit and had 5 strikeouts.
Feliz and Ryan were pivotal again in what became a walk-off 2-1 victory. Feliz was 2 for 3 with a triple, 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 BB. Ryan finished 0 for 4 reached first on a fielder’s choice that scored Feliz for the game winning run.
The Lincoln University Lions were dominated in both games Saturday by Queens College. The Knights won the first game 13-4. Danny Gargano (1-1) earned the win pitching in relief. In 4 IP he allowed just 1 run in 3 hits.
Several players scored runs and had RBI’s for the Knights, but the most impressive performance on offense definitely belonged to Brad Sakellarides, who finished 3 for 4 with a double, 2 runs and 2 RBI.
Game two didn’t feature as large of a run differential, but QC still won comfortably, 5-1. Dylan Hughes (2-1) had a great day starting on the mound. He struck out 8 of the 16 batters he faced in 4.2 innings, giving up only 1 run on 2 hits.
Johnnie Rodopoulos struck out 2 batters and earned his second save pitching the 8th inning, but his best work of the game didn’t come on the mound. Rodopoulos hit 3rd in the order and started most of the game in CF. He was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.
Division-III
St. Joseph’s also dominated in their double header. SJC defeated Mt. St. Mary (N.Y.) in both games Saturday afternoon.
SJC took game one with a score of 7-2 in 6.5 innings. They took a 2-1 lead in the 2nd inning on Ryan Decoursey’s (3 for 3, 4 RBI) RBI single to right center that scored Charles Rainone (3 for 4, 2 R, 1 RBI). They never looked back after that, having scored 2 runs in the 4th, 3 in the 5th, and 1 in the 6th.
Kevin Czeczotka started for the Golden Eagles, going 4.2 IP. He struck out 6, walked 4, and gave up 3 hits. Only one of the two runs that scored while he toed the rubber was earned.
The Golden Eagles nearly doubled their run total in game two as they went on to win 12-2. Daniel Deckert (3-3) earned the win for SJC. He finished with 7 K’s, 2 ER on 6 hits and 1 BB.
Decoursey again had a day at the plate, going 4 for 5 with runs. It was a big day for Joe Sanguedolce (2 for 3, 1 run, 5 RBI, 2 BB) and Justin Stromski (2 for 2, 2 runs, 3 RBI, 3 BB) as well.
Maritime College won game one vs St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn), 12-9. Ryan and Joe Ragone were roughed up by the Bears in the first 4.2 innings, but Keegan McDonald (W, 2-1) came into the 5th inning and held it down for the final 2.1 innings. He gave up just 1 hit in comparison to the 9 runs on 9 hits that preceded him.
It was an all-around effort on offense for the Privateers. Jaden Shea (1 for 3, 2 runs) and Adam Mosca (1 for 2, 1 R) had 3 RBI each while Phil Russo (3 for 4, 1 R) and Freddy Forgione (2 for 3, 2 R) each had two RBI.
In game two, Maritime was even more dominant offensively on their way to a 16-8 win. Shane Sullivan (2-0) got the win out of the bullpen, He threw 2 innings and allowed just 2 hits while punching 5 batters out of the batter’s box.
Austen Bishop was the Privateers best player on offense in this one. He went 5 for 6, earning 5 RBI’s and scoring 1 run. Many other players such as Matt Eng (2 for 3, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB) and Forgione (2 for 4, 3 R, 1 RBI) were also great at the plate.
The College of Mount Saint Vincent was easily taken care of by Merchant Marine Academy in two games. USMMA won the first game in 9 innings by a staggering score or 11-1.
Jay Piotrowski (3 IP, 1 ER) played well in the start, but Billy Todd (2 IP) earned the win by giving up zero hits in the 4th and 5th innings. Quinton Heck also threw a scoreless frame, while Andrew Hunt pitched the final 3 innings, earning his 5th save.
Brayden O’Connell (4 for 6, 2 R, 2 RBI) led the way for Kings Point. He was helped out by teammates Zac Skov (3 for 5, 2 RBI, double), Jack Millen (2 for 5, 1 Run, 2 RBI), and Jacob Kelly (3 for 4, 2 runs, triple).
USMMA then cruised to the finish of the second game, which they won 4-0. SP Joe Rabb (3-0) threw all 7 innings for the complete game win. He was incredible, giving up just one run and 2 BB’s along with 9 strikeouts.
Joey Zanetti finished 2 for 4 in the leadoff spot with 2 RBI. Skov went 3 for 4 with 2 runs and Millen went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Timmy Chase (2 for 3, 2 runs) and Jack McCann (1 for 1, 1 RBI) also contributed in this one.
The Farmingdale State College Rams split their double header with SUNY Old Westbury. The Panthers took game one behind a fantastic performance from Tim Woodford (2-0) as they won the game 3-1. Woodford threw a complete game in 8 innings of work, finishing with 0 ER, 6 K’s, 5 hits and 1 walk allowed. The Rams scored just one run with Woodford on the mound after an error at second base allowed the runner to get on base at they later scored.
Mike Manetta (1 for 3) broke the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the 8th inning with a 2 out solo shot over the RF fence, making it 2-1 Panthers. They later expanded their lead with Drew Robertson’s RBI single.
The Rams won the second game with a final score of 6-3. Both of FSC’s pitchers were pretty strong and played well enough to prevent the late attempt by the Panthers to comeback. SP Stephen Clancy pitched 5.2 innings, striking out 6 batters and allowing 3 runs (2 ER) on 6 hits. Michael Schock (1-0) earned the win after pitching 1.1 innings of relief. He gave up just one hit, one walk, and had one strikeout.
Chris Driscoll went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and a run. Jack Altieri (2 for 2, RBI, double), Peter Minneci (RBI) and Nolan White (BB, R, RBI) all made contributions as well
