St. John’s won a walk-off double by Marty Higgins in the 11th inning to defeat Seton Hall, 5-4. It capped a 4-for-4 game for Higgins. Nick Mondak started and was brilliant for the Johnnies, striking out 9 over seven strong innings, yielding just one run. Joe Joe Rodriguez went four innings in relief with four strikeouts to earn the win.
They will be back in action today for a DH today at noon. St, John’s is 12-10 overall but 3-5 in conference play.
Fordham lost 13-3 to Saint Joseph’s to fall to 16-11 on the season. They actually led 2-1 in the third after a 2-run single by Zach Selinger but that did not last long. Brooks Ey started and was tagged with the loss. Ian McCole went eight innings for Saint Joseph’s for the victory. The Rams were held to four hits. They will hope for better fortunes today in a 12pm double header.
Hofstra continued to struggle as they dropped a double header to Towson by the scores of 9-8 and 4-3 to fall to 1-8 in CAA play. In Game 1, they squandered a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning. In the 8th, Austin Gauthier gave them an 8-6 lead with an RBI double but Towson came back three runs in the ninth to win it. Jack Jett went 6 strong innings, but did not factor in the decision. John Mikolaicyk was tagged with the loss. The Pride had 10 hits and drew 7 walks – Gauthier, Rob Weissheier, Will Kennedy and Ryan Morash all had two hits.
In Game 2, Hofstra trailed 3-1 in the 9th inning when Rob Weissheier tied it up with a 2-R shot to send the game to extras. Towson scored the go-ahead run on a bases loaded walk. Mark Faello went six innings, allowing 1 ER in a strong outing. Kody Reeser struck out five over three innings of relief to earn the win. Tristan Nemjo was tagged with the loss for the Pride.
They will look to bounce back today with a DH beginning at 11.
Division-II:
Molloy lost the first game of their ECC Showdown to St. Thomas Aquinas, 10-6. They led 1-0 in the second inning on an RBI single by David Franchi, but STAC is a tough lineup to hold down, even against Molloy’s ace, Tim Panetta – who struggled and was tagged with the loss. He went 4.1 IP, allowing 6 ER on six hits and four walks. Angel Baez improved to 3-0 for the Spartans. The Lions actually had 11 hits on the game, but stranded nine runners. Sean Hogan had three hits and scored two runs. Jacob McCarthy had two hits and drove in two runs.
The two teams will be back in action for a DH today at noon in Uniondale.
Queens improved to 8-8 with a 21-7 victory over Lincoln University. The Knights offense notched 15 hits and took advantage of 14 walks from Lincoln’s staff. Dean Fazah struck out 13, and walked 0 over 6 IP to earn his fourth win of the season. Corey Tingo had three hits for the Knights, Teovaldo Estevez led the way with four RBI, Brad Sakellarides had three. Colin Diez, Reed Hoskins and Evan Christopher each scored four runs.
The teams will play a DH today in Pennsylvania as Queens looks to sweep and get over .500.
