Comsewogue Ready To Go To Battle With Strong Pitching Rotation

In the middle of the decade, Comsewogue was led by a terrific pitching staff that led them to back-to-back League Titles in 2015 & ’16. Since that time, they have been looking to regain the right mix.

Heading into 2021, they appear to have one of the top pitching staffs in the league, which should allow Joe Caltigerone’s squad to be in every game.

Anchoring the staff is Adelphi-commit Jacob Pedersen. He is a fourth-year varsity player, having started twice as a freshman. As a sophomore, coach noted if the team scored some more runs for him, he likely would’ve been All-League. That has been their missing ingredient in recent years as they typically had enough pitching to get the job done.

Alongside him in the staff is RHP Connor Voelpel. The Felician-commit was on JV in 2019 so coach hasn’t seen much of him, but he noted that he’s improved since he met him and “hopefully he’ll surprise some people.” Watching the above video, I would say that his curveball will induce plenty of swings & misses.

Dom Schuch and John Jay-commit Aaron Feldman are two more seniors that will round out the rotation and that combination should keep them competitive all year long.

Their question marks lie in the field. Aside from catcher Chris Velasquez, they return an entirely need team after graduating three impact players last year (Steven DiToma, Matt Sainsbury and Nick Stiles) and two more (Nick Lopez and Alex Ocasio) the year before.

They will hope that some of their younger players emerge and step into larger roles.

Comsewogue will open up against Bellport, but they also face West Islip, Eastport-South Manor, Centereach, Newfield and Deer Park.

Caltigerone stated, “It’s a good league, especially since they combined two leagues,” he added. With their pitching staff, it certainly gives them a chance to contend in this condensed season.
