Yesterday was a record-breaking way for one local program – who couldn’t stop scoring runs. Another team set a record for a marathon day while another had their game cancelled due to COVID protocols. Welcome to life in 2021.

Here’s how the action went down:

Division-I

Hofstra split a double header with Sacred Heart, but we are going to focus on Game 2 because it was the record-breaking performance. They posted a remarkable 27 runs in that one. They scored in every inning, here’s their breakdown of runs in each inning

They amassed 24 hits and drew 12 walks. Here’s their top performers

Ryan Morash: 4-for-6, 4 runs, 2 RBI

Anthony D’Onofrio: 3-for-5, 3 runs, 5 RBI

Austin Gauthier: 3-for-4, 3 runs, 2 RBI

Nick Marrero: 3-for-3, 4 runs, 4 RBI, 3 walks

Simply amazing. Brad Camarda started and recorded the win. The Pride improved to 6-5 on the season and they will finish out their series today at 1 pm.

Stony Brook defeated CCSU, 9-3 to improve to 4-4. Jared Milch started and got the win. He went six innings, allowing 1 ER, striking out seven and allowing six hits. The Seawolves actually trailed 2-0 in the sixth before the bats woke up. They scored two runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings and three in the ninth. Chris Hamilton scored the game-tying run on a wild pitch. Evan Fox scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. They notched 15 hits in the game. Evan Giordano, Evan Fox and Johnny Decker all had three hits. Hamilton and John Tuccillo each had two. They will finish out their series today at noon.

Fordham played their second longest game in program history – a 16-inning loss to Farleigh Dickinson. Justin Sierra broke the tie with a two-run triple in the top of the 16th inning. Ben Kovel took the loss in this game. Jake Guercio went 2-for-6 for the Rams and Jason Coules went 2-for-5 with two walks. T.J. Werner, a Mount Sinai grad, tied the game up with a two-run single in the seventh inning. They will close out their series this afternoon at noon. The Rams are now 6-1.

St. John’s got destroyed, 21-3, by Western Carolina as the Johnnies dropped to 7-2 on the season. The game was basically over in the first inning when the Catamounts scored seven runs off Ian Murphy. The Catamounts also scored seven runs in the seventh inning when the game was already out of hand. They hit three HRs; Luke Robinson, Justice Bigbie, Trevor Jones. St. John’s had seven hits – with Justin Folz the lone player to notch two hits. They will look to avoid a sweep this afternoon at noon.

Division-II

Adelphi split their double header with Pace. They lost the first game, 11-6, and won the second game, 5-2. In the victory, Nic Luc was outstanding – going six innings, striking out 9 and allowing just two hits. Matt Alifano and Michael Storms combined to close out the seventh inning. Catcher Jack Ryan had a great offensive game, hitting a solo home run and driving in a run with a double. Tyler Becker and Matt Alifano also had two hits. The Panthers are now 2-1 on the season and will travel too Dobbs Ferry to face Mercy today at 11am. Alifano is 7-for-11 to start the season with 3 walks (.714 OBP).

Molloy split a double header with Dominican. They won the first game, 9-3, and lost the second, 14-2. In the victory, Tim Panetta improved to 2-0 on the season with 7 strong innings, allowing 1 ER. He struck out 8 and allowing 5 hits. He was relieved by Charlie Cucchiara, who recorded the final six outs.

The offense notched 13 hits, with multi-hit games by Pete Theodorellis, Sean Hogan, Matt Overton, Tom Brady and Patrick Hoffman. Hogan and Chris Peralta drove in two runs.

Division-III

St. Joseph’s had their game cancelled due to COVID protocols.

This week, the Division-III programs are slated to begin.
