The Stony Brook School Quickly Building A Dangerous Program

From a League 9 school just three years ago to a fully-independent program that features some of the top players in their graduating classes, it’s been a transformative time for The Stony Brook School Bears. The private school was founded in 1922, but if you ask most Long Islanders, they probably didn’t know the school existed. Despite remaining low-profile, they are soon to be a force to be reckoned with on the baseball field.

I went down to their workout on Saturday morning, and you can see this is a program that will be very dangerous for the next several years. They may have some growing pains, as many of their impact players are still underclassmen and there is not yet enough kids in the program to develop a JV team.

Here is the composition of their roster:

2021s

Tim Wozny – RIT-commit

Tyler Smith – St. Peter’s-commit

Justin Porrino – Lebanon Valley College-commit

Lee Anthony Santiago – uncommit MIF

2022s

Tucker Genovesi – High Point commit

Ben Morforth – uncommitted MIF

Sam DiCanio – uncommitted 3B/RHP

2023s

Johan Franco – 14u USA Baseball Trials member

Stephen Cisz – OF

2024s

Aaron Baabev – IMG Academy transfer RHP

Sebastian Perez – RHP

2025s

Jayden Stroman – younger brother of Marcis

Todd Feurtado – LHP

Logan Charboneau – 6’7 RHP, PG Home Run champ

As you can see, they are a very young team with plenty of promise with their young core. They also have UCONN-commit Joe Wozny, who is rehabbing from shoulder surgery last year. They are very deep on the mound, with about six pitchers they can trust in big spots and others that can contribute when necessary. Being that they are fully-independent, they will not be playing Long Island teams but a highly-competitive schedule. Here’s their schedule.

Saturday, April 10 – DH vs Millenium HS @ SBS

Saturday, April 17 – DH vs Midwood @ SBS

Saturday, April 24 – DH vs Grand St. Campus @ SBS

Saturday, May 1 – DH vs Brooklyn Poly @ SBS

Saturday, May 8 – DH vs Monroe @ SBS *tentative*
