It speaks to the depth of a team when they can win the County Championship and still have some young phenoms in the pipeline at the JV level. That was the case with Sayville in 2019 as they captured their first Class A County Championship in program history while still having a hard-throwing pitcher like Jack Turner stashed away. He put himself on the map recently while playing for Team Steel this summer and LI Strong this fall. His fastball touched 90 at Felician University team camp and committed there on Sunday.
He should be a big piece of Sayville’s team this season. I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say…
Can you explain your experience with the college recruiting process and why you chose Felician?
The college recruiting process was tough at first for me but very attainable. I stayed in contact with numerous coaches and searched for the best fit on-and-off the field. Felician is a great school for me because I have good relationships with the coaches and they believe in me as a student athlete. It’s also fairly small Camus which allows for me to stay focused on improving.
Who are your favorite players in Major League Baseball and why?
Mike Trout is my favorite pro player because of his hustle and humbleness. He’s also a well-respected person.
Who are some individuals you have had an impact on your career?
My parents through it all, coaches Cristian Lynch, Jarad Vollkommer, Orlando Toledo also played a role in parts of my career.
What did you do to stay sharp during quarantine?
During quarantine, I stayed active. I lifted weights at home, usually outside.
How would you evaluate your performance in 2020?
I was pretty happy with how I performed. I got all of my velos up on the mound and was able to touch 90 with my fastball.
What do you plan on working on this off-season?
Staying loose, lots of stretching. It’s hard to throw when muscles tighten up from working out.
Best baseball trip you’ve been on?
I went to West Palm Beach in Florida for a baseball showcase in January of 2018. I got to play on the Nationals and Astros Spring Training fields. It was an overall great experience.
