Seminoles High-Powered Offense Brings Them The 10u Championship

by Andrew Connors

Mother Nature must have known there were championship games on Sunday, as the temperature was near the 70s for most of the day. However, the Seminoles’ bats may have been even hotter as they put up a whopping 13 runs in 6 innings against the FS Tigers.

Brody Kennedy was the starting pitcher for the Seminoles, and it turned out that he was the only pitcher for the Noles as he threw a complete game. Kennedy was settled in and rolling early on in the game, but the Tigers jumped on him when the third inning rolled around. He allowed three runs in the third inning, but these would be the only runs that Kennedy allowed all night. When all was said and done, Kennedy racked up 6 strikeouts and only walked one batter.

As for the Seminoles’ offense, there were a lot of players that contributed to the victory. Charlie Lamarca was all over the place tonight, as he finished the night going 2-2 with a triple and a single to go along with two walks and two runs scored. Chris Nunez came across to score three times on Sunday, and he did so by going 2-3 with a walk, a triple, and a single. Through all of the offense provided by the Seminoles on Sunday night, the most impressive was a home run off the bat of Guy Caurbois. He came up in the 6th inning and with a big lead and a runner on and smoked a ball to deep centerfield. Both Caurbois and the runner came across to score in what were the final runs of the game scored by the Seminoles.

For the Tigers, Danny Curich started the game on the mound but only lasted one inning. In this inning, Curich walked three batters, hit one more, but struck out two. After that, the Tigers brought in Michael Hanlon to relieve Curich. Hanlon got four batters to strike out in his 4 innings of work, but also gave up 5 runs in that time. Once Hanlon ran out of gas, the Tigers brought in Vincent Bourne to close the door and get the final 5 outs of the game. When he came in, Bourne looked really sharp as he struck out the first two batters he faced. However, the 6th inning was a totally different story for him as the Seminoles figured him out and put up 4 more runs to push their lead to 12-3.

The Tigers didn’t go down without a fight though, as they scraped a couple of runs together in the bottom of the sixth. Bourne reached on an error to start the inning and Richie Ravo brought him in to score on a double smoked down the first base line. A pair of errors by the Seminoles plated Ravo and Aidan Hauer, but the Tigers’ comeback attempt stopped there and they were defeated by a score of 12-5.
