There is something about baseball under the lights and Friday night that goes together just way too good. Here at Cantiague Park, the 10u LI Jr. Ducks took on the 10u Farmingdale Greendogs. This may have been a low-scoring one, but just as exciting as it gets.
Colin Johnson got the start for the Ducks. The right handed pitcher came out with a fastball-curveball combination which was nasty. He forced a lot of groundouts and ended the first inning with a strikeout leaving a runner at third base.
Aiden Simonetti was the starter for the Greendogs. Aiden threw hard and kept plenty of the Ducks hitters off balance. The defense in this game all around was very impressive, the Ducks second basemen, Tyler Cohen, stood out early on when he made a fantastic diving play up the middle taking away a hit.
The defense continued to shine and each team got runners into scoring position but weren’t able to come through. Marc Brisham, the catcher for the Ducks, was very impressive behind the dish. He threw out two runners stealing and was a part of the biggest play of the night. In the top of the fourth, Joe Ferrente of the Dalers, smoked a ball into the left center gap in a scoreless game. After an incredible relay all the way from the fence, Joe was tagged out at the plate by Marc completing a crazy play!
Flash forward to the bottom of the 5th, the game was scoreless. The ice was finally broken when Salvos Siouiopoulos stepped up with a man on second and ripped an RBI base hit into right center. Joe Ricotta followed with an RBI single of his own making the score 2-0 headed to the final inning.

Michael Garcia went out to close the door in the sixth inning. Although he made it interesting loading up the bases, he got a strikeout and a groundout to end the game! It seemed like the theme of this game was getting into trouble and getting out as the Ducks won 2-0! “We work every practice with defensive work so seeing it come through and work out makes us proud,” said the head coach of the Ducks following their victory. The 10u LI Jr. Ducks defeat the 10u Farmingdale Greendogs 2-0!
