MVP Beast Captures the 18U Northeast Elite On a Wild Walk-off

by Ethan Berch

When you get a championship match up of Body Armor Titans and the MVP Beast, you just know we are in store for a good one. At Baseball Heaven, the Titans took on the Beast in a Championship game under the bright lights in Yapank.

Matt Canizares got the start for the Beast. Matt had his velocity up early and was looking very good throughout his start. The Titans struck first when Colin Ross drove home the game’s first run with an RBI groundout to get the Titans up early.

St. John’s-commit Kyle Chase was the starter for the Titans and he also on his game. Kyle touched 89 mph in the first inning and sat around 85-87 mph throughout. However, the Beast responded in the bottom half with an RBI groundout for themselves. The game was tied after the first and these guys were just getting started.

Chase continued to deal through this lineup. He was at seven strikeouts through four innings when the fifth inning hit and the drama began. With a runner on second and one man out. The pitcher himself, Canizares smoked an RBI double into the gap to give the Beast a late lead. However, it was discovered that he was using an illegal bat and his hit was called off. The runner went back to second and the batter was out. The Titans caught a huge break.

Flash forward another inning to the bottom of the sixth. The Beast wants their revenge and they are going to get it. Sean Keys steps up with two outs and a man on second and rips a go-ahead double to give them the lead, for real this time! But this game wasn’t over just yet. In the top of the seventh, the Titans got the tying and go ahead runs on base with nobody out. Although Dylan Banner got the job done with a sac-fly, Kyle Colleluori got the job done getting out of that jam with the game at most only being tied.

Here we find ourselves in a tie game in the bottom of the seventh inning in a championship game. Does it get better than this? The Beast managed to get runners to second and third with one out. A chopper to the pitcher, runner comes to the plate and is thrown out. The batter continues to run and gets himself into a rundown between first and second and the guy from second base races all the way around to score the game-winning run after a botched throw to the plate. MVP Beast wins the tournament and takes down the Body Armor Titans!

In a crazy game, where talent was leaking all over the field, MVP Beast comes out on top. “When you play a team like that, you can’t make any mistakes and give them extra chances and luckily we were able to do that.” That was coach Pete Kritikos and the MVP Beast talking about his team’s defense after they did not allow one error in this one. The MVP Beast win over the LI Titans!
