Yeti Defeats LI Junior Ducks, 7-2

by Jack McCluskey

Yeti Baseball took on LI Jr. Ducks at Baseball Heaven on Wednesday evening in a Boys of Summer 14u match up. Yeti sent Jim Lanfis to the mound. He pitched 4 strong innings with 4 strikeouts on 4 hits and only giving up 2 runs.

Following the game, Yeti’s Head Coach was asked about the performance of his team in which he said, “the team hit and fielded well. They did everything we had to do at the plate and ran the bases well.” In regards to the performance of his starting pitcher he said “Anthony Fedor has been our guy during the summer. He came in throwing as hard as he did all summer and he shut the door down for his team.”

Junior Ducks starting pitcher, Jacob Gordon, retired the first two batters of the game. Then his counterpart, Jim Lanfis, hit a triple. Jaden Peyar capitalized on it and drove him in with an RBI double to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Yeti’s Tyler Trouato led off the top of the 3rd inning with a triple. After the next two batters were retired,  Jim Lanfis continued his hot hitting and hit an RBI triple to give them a 2-0 lead. Jake Thorton also hit an RBI triple to extend the lead to 5-0.

Max Effort Training

The LI Ducks came to bat in the bottom of the 3rd down 5-0. James Dean led off the inning with a walk. Robert Doyle hit an RBI single to make it 5-1 as it appeared they might sneak back into the game. In the top of the 4th inning, however, Tyler Trouato led off with a walk – which always seems to translate into runs. Tyler Blasco drove him in on a fielder’s choice to give his team a 7-1 lead.

In the bottom of the 4th, the Yeti’s pitcher got the first out of the inning but Lucas Diaz got on base on an error by the 3rd baseman. Diaz stole 2nd base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Joey Quinci grounded to the SS, but the run scored on the play to make it 7-2.

Yeti held on the beat the LI Ducks 7-2. This was scheduled to be a double header but the second game was postponed. Each team will be back in action on Sunday, October 18.
