West Islip Defeats Tru32, 6-3

by Jack McCluskey

West Islip took on Tru32 this afternoon at Baseball Heaven. They sent Nick Veiga to the mound and he performed extremely well. He went 5+ innings with three strikeouts and gave up three runs on four hits with two walks.

Tucker Schiavoni gave West Islip an early 2-0 on a 2 run HR in the top of the 2nd inning. I asked him about his HR and he told me “it felt great and it was the first 2 runs of the game. He knew it was gone “once it left his bat”. Then I asked him how his team prepared after giving up a 3-0 lead. He told me “that his pitcher Nick Veiga pitched 5 strong innings”.

In the top of the 2nd inning Alex Czarnomski led off with a triple and he came around to score when Tucker Schiavoni hit a 2 run HR to give West Islip a 2-0 lead. Two innings later, West Islip got a man on 1st base when Tucker Schiavoni led off the top of the 4th by getting on base on an error by Tru32 pitcher. Then Tru32 threw the ball to 2nd base and it went into the outfield and Trucker Schiavoni scored from 2nd base to give West Islip a 3-0 lead. Then in the bottom of the 4th inning Tru32 got a lead off walk and the second batter also walked. The following batter hit a ground rule double to cut the lead to 3-1. Then Jackson hit a 2 RBI single to tie the game at 3-3. The game stayed tied until the top of the 7th inning.

West Islip started the inning with a strikeout. Then Matt Marmo got hit by a pitch and he went on to score on a throwing error by the catcher to give West Islip a 4-3 lead. Jake Donnelly and Bobby Marsh hit back-to-back singles. Jack Kory hit a 2 RBI single to give them a 6-3 but he got thrown out going to 2nd base.

West Islip held on to win 6-3 over Tru32 as they are now 1-0 while Tru32 falls to 1-2 on the fall season.
