Boys of Summer kicked off its Fall season on a chilly evening at Mitchel Field. The LI Titans took on Next Level Baseball with dominant pitching and small ball taking the headlines in this match up.
Mike Steinberg got the nod for the Titans in this one and was able to get himself into a groove very early in this one. Mike commanded a very nasty slider which just about no Next Level hitters were able to handle all night.
“The slider was my best pitch by far, I had it working all night and I don’t believe anyone got a hit off of it” said Mike following his performance. Mike’s strong performance helped keep this TItans team in the game and gave them a serious chance for a victory.
Christian Sikiric started the game for Next Level and also looked very impressive. Christian struck out 4 batters through his 3.2 inning performance. He dealt with trouble in the fourth inning in a tied ball game when the Titans whipped out some small ball. After a lead off double in that inning and a sacrifice bunt, Apiella was able to drive home the game’s first run making the score one to nothing in the fourth. A couple batters and hits later and the bases were loaded for Chris Velazguez. Chris popped it up into the infield but the wind blew it away and into no mans land. Two runs scored and the Titans went up 3-0.
After Sikiric left the game in the fourth, on came Olivia Pichardo. Olivia was excellent getting out of the bases loaded jam with a strikeout and then two more shutout innings. Olivia even struck out the side in the bottom of the sixth!
After the fourth ended, things settled back down. And all credit goes to Mike Steinberg who ended up this game with a complete game. He was just two outs away from a complete game shutout but Andrew Fingleton smoked an RBI double the other way putting Next Level on the board. Mike concluded his night with a four strikeout complete game performance. The LI Titans won this duel 3-1 over Next Level Baseball.
