Get your blankets, sweatshirts, and coats out and ready because it’s fall baseball time! A late game match up between the Batting .1000 Seminoles and the South Shore Chiefs was a good one under the chilly lights at Cantiague Park. It was a defensive battle throughout with minimal hits, but low scoring baseball never fails to excite!
Sal Apap got the start for the Chiefs and he was impressive. Apap pitches from the left side and showed a very good off speed pitch which troubled many of the Noles hitters. Apap struck out three batters through 3.1 innings pitched. He did run into trouble in the fourth inning when Jaiden Zoller led off with a bunt single. Zoller would end up stealing second and third and then on his way to home following a throwing error. Zoller’s speed became a problem throughout this game as the Noles went up 1-0 in the fourth.
The story of the night just so happened to be on the pitching from the Seminoles. Kayden Brates got the start for the Noles and was no short of dominant. He tossed four no hit innings with three strikeouts. Brates was throwing the ball very hard making it tough for Chief hitters to catch up to his fastball. Two timely double plays also got Brates out of two walks he issued in the third and fourth inning.
Brayden Siegman was able to add some insurance in the top of sixth, by ripping an RBI double into center field, once again Jaiden Zoller was trouble scoring from first base. Jake Ragusa entered in relief and he did his job recording the final six outs completing the combined no-hitter!
Defensively the Seminoles deserved to win this game, two perfectly executed double plays in the infield, a runner cut down at second trying to steal, and no errors at all. “I really push them on defense, defense wins baseball games to me” said the head coach of the Seminole’s when asked if his team usually thrives in these situations. The Batting 1.000 Seminoles take down the South Shore Chiefs 2-0!
