B1000 Seminoles Ferriggi Capture 10u Labor Day Bash Tournament

Offense was on display in the finals of the 10u Labor Day Bash at Plainedge Park this afternoon. The B1000 Seminoles defeated the CN Rebels by the score of 12-4, as they got the bats going early and often against a talented Rebels team that won their first four games of the weekend. The Seminoles, who lost two games, qualified for the playoffs and ran with their opportunity and defeated the Farmingdale Greendogs to reach the finals.

Max Effort Training

In the finals, they jumped out to an early 5-0 lead against Luke Walker. Leadoff batter Gus Sofronis singled to right field and moved to third on a double by DJ Dowling. Cleanup batter Fred Klauck scored them both with a double to left field to make it 2-0. A walk to Luca Geraci and hit by pitch of Zach Jeshiva loaded the bases for Jake Bursztyn singled to score two more runs and open up a 4-0 lead. Chris Nunez hit a come backer to the mound that was thrown away and allowed the fifth run of the inning to score.

DJ Dowling got the start for the Seminoles and he threw a shutdown inning in the bottom of the first, setting down the Rebels 1-2-3.

His offense went back to work in the second inning after batting around in the first. Sofronis got it going again with a single to center and stole second to get himself into scoring position. An error allowed him to get to third and he scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-0. Walker was able to escape further damage in the inning.

In the top of the third, Brody Kennedy led off with a single to left field and moved to second on a walk. A fielder’s choice put runners at the corners with one out for Courtney ‘Iceman’ Campbell, who singled in a run to make it 7-1, but later stole home to make it 8-1. Sofronis continued his torrid stretch with a double to left field and he scored on an RBI single by P.J. Romanelli and suddenly it was a 9-1 ballgame.

The game did turn tides in the fourth inning when the Rebels capitalized on two consecutive errors by the shortstop – one scored a run – with a two run single by Nico Carino to make it a 9-4 ballgame.

That was as close as they would come, though, as the Seminoles kept their foot on the gas. They added another run in the fifth inning on another RBI single by Romanelli which scored Iceman Campbell. They also tacked on another run in the sixth when Campbell came through with a bases loaded single, although the second runner was thrown out at the plate attempting to score.

Brody Kennedy came on in relief of Dowling to throw a spotless sixth inning to slam the door for the Seminoles who finished the weekend with a record of 3-2.
