Six-Run Sixth Propels B1000 Kondak to 10-5 Victory

Coach Erik Kondak spoke glowingly of his team’s resiliency and ability to grind out at bats. Those qualities were on display in the sixth inning of their first game of the Labor Day Bash against the LI Storm on Saturday afternoon.

They entered the inning with the game tied 4-4 and when the inning ended – they led 10-4 after a series of huge RBI hits. They held on to win by the score of 10-5.

The game was scoreless after the two innings but the Seminoles broke through with four runs. William Shlomm started things off with a single to left field and moved to second on Lucas Lucchi‘s infield single. After a strikeout and a ground out, starting pitcher Frank Maiorano came through with a clutch two-run triple to right field to make it 2-0. The following batter, Evan Cabral ripped an inside-the-park two-run HR to right to extend the lead to 4-0.

At the 12u level, a four-run lead is hardly something to rest on as offenses tend to score in bunches.

The Storm didn’t roll over. Chris Mangieri got the third inning started with a single to right field and stole second. Charlie Burns singled to right field as well and advanced on the throw home. After two strikeouts, it appeared Maiorano may escape unscathed but Anthony Cantara singled to right and it got under the right fielder’s glove for a three-base error and allowed him to come all the way around to score. The score was now 4-3. They were able to tie the game up in the bottom of the fourth on an error by the shortstop that allowed Jack Viggiano to score.

Both teams traded zeros in the fifth inning, which brought us to the sixth in a 4-4 game.

The Seminoles exploded for a six-spot in the inning. They did this all after the first batter was retired. The go-ahead hit came on an RBI single by cleanup hitter Joe Angelletta. Aiden Susi followed with an RBI single of his own. Kevin Prosceo drove in two runs with a double, Kolton Apolant extended the lead to 9-4 with an RBI single of his own and William Shlomm dropped a bloop single in to make it 10-4.

With the game broken open, the Storm did get one back in the home half of the sixth on an RBI ground out off the bat of Jack Viggiano but that was all. The Seminoles won by the score of 10-5.

In their second game of the day, the Seminoles lost to the Greendogs, 13-3. They will play the East Coast Cannons tomorrow at 3:45 at Cantiague Park.
