The Oil City Bandits stayed true to their name and stole a victory this evening after trailing 4-0 entering the bottom of the third inning against the Three Village Patriots to open up the ‘Bring the Heat’ tournament at Plainedge Park.
It was all Patriots early, as they jumped out to an early 4-0 lead against the Bandits in the top of the third inning. Their rally got started on a leadoff walk to Ryan Byrne. After an error and a hit by pitch, he scored on an RBI single to left field by Daniel Cornish. They added their second run on an RBI ground out by Ethan Honan. Anthony Boris followed with a routine grounder to second that was misplayed and scored their third run and then Honan scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.
With the way Luke O’Grady looked in the first two innings, it appeared that would be more than enough to get it done, but the Bandits woke up in the bottom of the third. They batted around with the rally starting – as it usually does – from back-to-back walks. After the next two batters were retired and they hoped to escape unscathed, another walk to Michael Amato loaded up the bases for Aiden Perry. He stroked a two-run single to right field to cut the deficit in half. Perry stole second and came around to score the tying run on an error that came off the bat of Ricky Guzman. Tyler Donahui, the starting pitcher, and Jack Klang followed with singles to keep the rally going and Aiden Piltch gave them the lead on a two-run single that snuck past the shortstop’s glove. Reliever Anthony Boris escaped the jam on a strikeout.
In the next inning, the Bandits continued to pad their lead as they added three more runs. The first run scored on an RBI single off the bat of Cason Rally. Aiden Perry continued his great game with an RBI single to score Joseph Tambini and Ricky Guzman scored Rallo with an RBI single of his own.
Now working with the comfortable lead, Donahui was able to limit the damage, although the Patriots did get one across the board in the top of the fifth on an error that scored Rowan Golub.
Donahui was able to slam the door shut on the victory, working around a two-out single to O’Grady in the sixth and ending the game on a ground out to the third baseman.
Oil City will be back in action tomorrow morning against B1000 Seminoles while Three Village will face Beast Black.
