Dodger Nation Power Way Past Oil City Bandits To Open ‘Bring The Heat’ Tourney

Dodgers Nation 10U opened up their Bring the Heat tournament with a dominating 14-1 victory over Oil City Bandits on Friday afternoon at Plainedge Park.

The boys wasted no time getting the bats going into the top of the first when Ethan Sukalic led off with a single and advanced to second on an error. After a walk and a pair of strikeouts, Costa Papoutsakis drove him in with an RBI single. Johnny Bulone hit a grounder to third that appeared to end the inning, but the errant throw allowed two runs to score and extend the lead to 3-0. A single by pitcher Zach Sisto brought up Dylan Mannino who also singled, which opened up a 4-0 lead.

Sisto went out and worked around a two-out walk to fire a scoreless first inning and allow his offense the chance to extend their lead. That’s exactly what they did.

After a fly out to left to open up the inning, Ethan Sukalic walked and came around to score on an inside-the-park 2-R HR off the bat of Lorenzo Rojas to make it 6-0.

A silent third inning sent the game into the fourth where the Dodgers bats went back to work. They used some great plate discipline to extend their lead to 7-0 when Costa drew a bases loaded walk to score Ethan.

The game was completely broken open in the top of the fifth when the Oil City Bandits’ pitcher struggled with his command, allowing five walks, two singles and a bases-clearing triple by Johnny Bulone which put the game out of the reach.

The Bandits were able to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth, but the run-rule went into effect. Sisto recorded the victory, working three shutout innings.

Coach Johnny was pleased with his team’s performance noting that the team has “come a long way since the start of the summer” and today they did a “great job of executing at the plate, and maintaining a disciplined approach.”
