Heading into their final game before the playoffs, the Hauppauge Eagles needed a big outing from their starter, Patrick Kelly, if they had any aspirations of continuing their run at a championship. Facing possible elimination, Kelly shined for his team as they captured the victory 8-0 over Shoreham-Wading River.
Throwing a complete game 7 inning shutout, Kelly willed his team to a win while only allowing 4 hits and striking out 2. His performance kept the pressure off the Eagles bats who also came up big. Working seamlessly throughout the course of the game, Kelly showed poise in difficult situations while also maintaining complete command over his entire arsenal of pitches. When asked about his strategy after the game he said, “just throw strikes and let my fielders do the work, that’s what I’ve been doing since I started playing baseball.” Giving credit to where credit is due, the Eagles defense played an exceptional game, making the routine plays look easy and helping their pitcher get off the field as quick as possible.

Not to be overshadowed, the Hauppauge hitters also came ready to play, coming up with timely hitting in multiple situations.
The runs started early for the Eagles after junior center fielder, Alex Oh led off the game with a single and scored on a throwing error later in the inning. Ryan Levenberg would also score on another throwing error in the 3rd that put the Eagles up 2-0.
However, it would the 4th inning where Hauppauge would put up 5 runs and really take a commanding lead over the Wildcats. Alex Oh, Chris Leone, and Ryan Levenberg all had RBI base hits and the inning was capped off by a 2 RBI line drive to centerfield that came off the bat of Joe Ferreri. Ferreri would tack on another RBI double in the 6th to finish the game 3-4 with 3 RBI’s.
Overall, the Eagles played a terrific game and will move onto the playoffs tomorrow. They are set to take on Miller Place at 11:45am in Moriches.
