For the first time since 2013, Clarke is going back to the County Championship. On Memorial Day afternoon, they triumphed to a 5-0 victory over MacArthur in the do-or-die game three.
After tossing 60 pitches on Saturday, Brendan Turton was ready to take the hill on just one day of rest. The ace who’s been phenomenal all season, tossed a complete game shutout allowing six hits.
“I came out on one day of rest I was feeling good I only threw 60 pitches last time I was feeling good today. We’re psyched to be going to counties it’s been our goal since the beginning of the season and we can’t wait to get there, we played a good game,” said Turton.
Considering the MacArthur lineup couldn’t get anything going against Turton, all Clarke needed was run support. Not only did they get run support, but everybody in their lineup contributed.
In the bottom of the 3rd, Nick Campagnuolo drove in CJ Cumbo for the game’s first run. Chris Giardinocashed in with an RBI single two batters later, extending the early lead to 2-0.
The bottom of the 4th is where this game really broke open. This time, it was the back end of the order that got the job done. RBI from Derek Smith and Matt DeStefano broke the game open to 5-0.
Not only was momentum on their side, but the home crowd was special. Approximately 500 fans showed up to the game with horns, vuvuzelas and much more. It was truly a game to remember for Clarke.
Until the 7th inning with two outs, MacArthur never made a real threat of coming back. At that point, it was simply too late. In the end, Clarke came out victorious.
Clarke is heading to the Class A County Championship where they will face an extremely talented Divisionteam. The three game series begins on Friday at SUNY Old Westbury.
