OTD: Mike Pienkos Notches Career Win No. 600

Chaminade Head Coach Mike Pienkos entered elite company with his 600th career victory on Monday night. The No. 1 seed Flyers weathered a seventh inning rally over No. 6 Holy Trinity with a 6-2 victory. Starting pitcher Bobby Dahl went the complete game, he brought a two-hit shutout into the seventh before he ran into a bit of trouble but recorded the final out on a soft line drive to Aidan Larkin at short.

Nick Hagstrom got the start for the Titans. They were coming off an upset win over No. 3 St. Dominic last Wednesday night. Hagstrom worked around a two-out single by Larkin in the first inning to put up a zero, but the high-powered lineup of the Flyers could not be contained for any longer.

They posted two runs in the second inning on an RBI ground out by Brendan Daly and an RBI single by Aidan Umhafer.

Dahl was lights-out for much of the game, so it certainly appeared the game was more lopsided than it was. He got some insurance runs to work with in the fifth inning on an RBI single by the Hofstra-commit Larkin. They also added a few more runs to open up a 6-0 lead.

In the top of the seventh, the strike zone got a little tight and the Titans took full advantage, putting up two runs, but Dahl was able to seal the deal for the Flyers.

Larkin wound up going two-for-three with two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI.

The Flyers stay in the winner’s bracket, they will face No. 2 St. John the Baptist tonight at 7pm. The Titans will face St. Anthony’s in an elimination game at 4pm.
