OTD: Justin Rosner Fires Complete Game Over Massapequa

After a rough opening series against Oceanside last week, the Farmingdale Dalers were looking to get back in rhythm, as they took on rival Massapequa.

The Dalers got just what they needed from their ace Justin Rosner, against a team that put up 71 runs last week against Hempstead. Rosner faced a tough Massapequa lineup and he was dominant as he struck out 7 and only allowed 1 earned run through 7 innings, in a 4-1 victory.

From the start, it was obvious that Justin Rosner and Farmingdale were in control of this game. After a scoreless top half of the first, Massapequa had a runner in scoring position with two outs in the bottom of the first for UNC-commit Johnny Castagnozzi. Rosner beared down and struck him out swinging with a high fastball to end the inning. The second inning remained scoreless for both sides. Farmingdale struck first in the top half of the third with two runs on an infield error by the Chiefs with two outs.

Massapequa answered  back to in the bottom half of the third, as Nick Schwartz had an RBI single to center field, this cut Farmingdales lead to 2-1. But that would be all the Chiefs would get as Rosner struck out Castagnozzi two more times with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the bottom of the 3rd and 5th innings, and shut Massapequa out for the rest of the game.

“Our practices were very serious, all of us pitchers show each other the ropes and I was glad I was able to solidify it” rosner said after he shut them down the rest of the way. The score did not stay 2-1 for the rest of the game though, as Nick lundin starts off the fourth inning with a walk. Sophomore Matt Disanti then connected with a 2 run homer over the right field fence to give the Dalers a 4-1 lead. That would be all the run support Rosner and the the Dalers would need thanks to his 7 strikeout, 1 earned run, complete game performance.

This was only game one of the three game series between these two teams. As they will play Tuesday and Wednesday and of course the Dalers are playing to win the series, while Massapequa is going to be playing to avoid a series loss and even a series sweep
