(Editor’s Note: This article originally appeared on April 2, 2017.)

When you’re hot, you’re hot.

The St. John’s Red Storm overpowered the Hofstra Pride, coming away with a 14-3 win for their ninth consecutive victory.

“It feels good when you win, it’s nice to see our guys start swinging the bat in the middle of the game.” Head Coach Ed Blankmeyer said after the win. “Another game, another step.”

The Red Storm took the lead early on a single from Jesse Berardi scoring Michael Donadio. Later in the game the Johnnies tacked on another run on a single from Anthony Brocato, scoring Troy Dixon from second.

The Pride scored their only three runs in the top of the fifth inning. They scored on an error, wild pitch and an RBI single by Nick Bottari to score Steven Foster.

The Red Storm came up big in the 6th inning. They ripped nine hits and scored nine runs, to erase a 3-2 deficit. Jamie Galazin, Donadio, and Brocato all earned two RBI in the inning. St. John’s finished the 7th inning up 11-3 over Hofstra.

St. John’s final three runs came in the bottom of the 7th thanks to Michael Antico and Ryan Markey. Antico earned two RBI on a huge triple and Markey scored one on a single.

“19 hits, we had a lot of guys contribute.” Coach Blankmeyer said. “It was a nice win.”

Berardi finished the day with three singles, he also walked and hit by a pitch. He showed his versatility–coming up with an impressive catch at the top of the seventh.

He also commended the pitching staff, who held the Pride to seven hits and three runs. Jeff Belge started and Michael LoPresti came in as a reliever and finished the game.

St. John’s will play Saint Peter’s on Tuesday at home.
