Division I:

  • Stony Brook took on Central Connecticut in a back and forth battle which saw the Seawolves come out on top. Thanks to a late sixth inning rally, Stony Brook defeated the Blue Devils 3-2 in game one of the series.

The Seawolves started off the game aggressively, taking a quick 1-0  lead in the first inning with a timely sacrifice fly from catcher John Tuccillo. From there on out the Blue Devils gave Stony Brook great chances to build on their lead due to their defensive miscues, ones they would not capitalize on. In the top of the sixth CCSU’s offense finally came alive, plating two runs and taking a one run lead. A lead that wouldn’t last very long. In the bottom of the sixth a huge two out two RBI single by Stanton Leuthner would be the final blow Stony Brook needed to take down the Blue Devil’s.

Senior pitcher Jared Milch had a quality outing on the mound. Tossing seven innings and striking out seven, Milch earned his first win of the season and led Stony Brook to their third win.

Catcher John Tuccillo was seeing the ball great at the plate today, going 1-for-1 and working two walks. Tuccillo drove in the first run of the game, giving Stony Brook the hot start they desperately needed.

Stanton Leuthner only had one hit on the day but it sure was a big one. Driving in both the tying and game winning run. The Freshman seems to have a bright future ahead of him with the Seawolves.

Stony Brook plays game two of the series tomorrow against the Blue Devils at 1 pm.

  • Hofstra was defeated in a heartbreaking walk-off battle in game one of the series against the New Mexico Lobos. Having a one-run lead going into the bottom of the ninth the Lobos drove home the game winner on a double by Kyle Landers, winning by a score of 12-11.

The Pride went down 1-0 quick but responded with four runs of their own highlighted on a pair of singles by Rob Weissheier and Vinnie Cosello. The Lobos had an answer for Hofstra, putting up a fight and scoring six runs in the next two innings. Going into the sixth and the score locked at 7-6 in New Mexico’s favor, Anthony D’Onofrio and Sean Flaherty drove in two runs to put them back on top. Their lead didn’t last long when a big fly by Ediberto Reyes put the Lobos back on top 9-8. A solo HR in the seventh by New Mexico gave them a 10-8 lead going into the ninth, Hofstra wasn’t going down without a fight though. Scoring three runs of their own on a fielder’s choice and a huge error, putting them in a position to win with their 11-10 lead. Kyle Landers had different plans on his mind, delivering the game winning blow for the Lobos on a two RBI double to win the game.

Shortstop Austin Gauthier had a great game as the placeholder for the Pride at the top of the lineup. Going 2-for-4, Gauthier scored four runs and worked a walk on the day.

Rob Weissheier had an all-around productive game out of the four hole. Going 2-for-4, Weissheier drove home two while scoring a pair of his own in the process.

Grad student Lucas Hall tossed a solid two innings for the Pride, giving up no runs and striking out two.

Hofstra plays game two of the series tomorrow against the Lobos at 2pm.

  • St. Johns was defeated in a late night battle against the University of Las Vegas. With the bats dormant in the 6-1 loss, the Rebels sure had them going; accumulating 13 hits throughout the game.

From the very start of the game the Rebels rang off three runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. With UNLV up 4-0 going into the sixth inning, the Red Storm scored their lone run on Mitchell Henshaw’s solo home run. Adding two more runs in the eighth the Rebels went on to beat St. John’s 6-1 in a non competitive battle.

Mitchell Henshaw the lone run provider, went 1-for-4 on the day and collected his first big blast of the season.

Junior Justin Folz had a good game at the plate for the Red Storm, going 2-for-4 on the day and opening some eyes.

They will be back in action for game two of the series today at 5 pm.

  • Fordham’s game verse Iona was postponed due to rain and they will be back in action today at 1 pm.

Division-II:

  • Molloy defeated Franklin Pierce, 10-5, in their morning game but lost to Slippery Rocky University, 18-6, in their late afternoon game down in Cary, NC. In the victory, James Messina had a huge day, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. Sean Hogan drove in four runs, including a two-run single to open up a 5-1 lead in the second inning and a two-run single to break open the game, 10-4, in the fifth inning.
