Andrew Aschettino Joins St. Joseph’s Coaching Staff

One year after stepping away from high school baseball with a County Championship, Andrew Aschettino is back.

The 17-year Head Coach of Rocky Point has joined an already sterling coaching staff St. Joseph’s College to be the first base coach. The staff features Head Coach Rick Garrett, former Dowling Head Coach Tom Caputo and assistant coach Joe Benkert.

“It was always a goal of mine,” said Aschettino. “It was always in the back of my mind to face a different type of challenge or opportunity. I don’t know if I thought it would be immediate. But Tom Caputo was one of my first assistant coaches at Rocky Point and we’ve been friends over 20 years. Rick being a friend as well, it happened pretty quick,” he added.

While this may seem like an insignificant addition, the presence of a third coach with managerial experience could prove to benefit many players. Aschettino was able to turn around a Rocky Point program that was dormant and secondary to lacrosse in their own town, and was able to build a perennial contender and win a County Championship.

Additionally, with the addition of Rob Milopsky, who he coached at Rocky Point, they are able to bring a premium pitcher into a conference he may thrive in.

“The timing was pretty good – I’m really pumped up about it,” he added.

In regards to the competition in the Skyline Conference he stated that “I’m familiar with Farmindale’s success. I definitely need to familiarize myself with the other teams which I’ve already started to do.”

In regards to his role with the team, he said, “whatever they need me to do, I’ll do – that’s the beauty of being on a staff like this.”

The Golden Eagles open up the season on Saturday, March 7 at Ramapo with a double header. They compiled a record of 20-17 last season. The previous season they captured the Skyline Conference title.
