Nick Roselli is a left-handed batter with a sweet swing and a smooth glove in the infield. More importantly, he has proven himself to be a winning ballplayer that is a menace on the base paths. He announced his verbal commitment to Sacred Heart University last week, becoming the latest 2021 grad to come off the board.
I had a chance to talk to him, and here’s what he had to say…
Can you explain your experience with the college recruiting process and why you chose Sacred Heart?
Tom Downey, Travis Quattrini and the rest of the Titans’ organization does a great job of making sure we play in the right tournaments with the most exposure. Every tournament we played in, there were multiple colleges at every one of our games. Coach Tuttle and Coach Robins, from Division Ave High School, really helped me by reaching out to college coaches for me as well. I also went to a lot of college Prospect Camps, which allowed me to get in front of colleges for an entire day, which is a great way to get noticed.
As far as why I chose Sacred Heart, that was really an easy decision for me. I’ve known Coach TK Kiernan for a while and I really like his coaching style. Once I got on campus and met the rest of the coaches, and Head Coach Nick Restaino, I knew SHY was the right place for me. I actually had a few more college visits planned for the fall, but I knew where I wanted to be so I cancelled my visits and committed to SHU.
Who are your biggest role models in life?
My parents because they always support my sister and I on-and-off the field. They have taught me if I want something bad enough, I have to work hard to achieve it.
Who are your favorite players in the MLB?
Francisco Lindor is my favorite player because I love the energy he brings every day.
Has baseball always been your No. 1 sport?
Yes, baseball has always been my number one sport but I’ve also wrestled since seventh grade.
You come from an athletic family, can you tell us more about that?
Yes, my dad was a baseball player and boxed. My sister, Dani, a freshman softball player at Adelphi University.
Who are your favorite musical artists?
Drake, Polo G and Lil Tjay.
Do you have any superstitions?
Yes, I put my grandfather’s memory card in my back pocket during games.
Do you ave any private instructors? Can you explain your time with the LI Body Armor Titans?
My hitting coach is Brian (BA) Anderson, he’s really good at breaking down everything for me and throws good live BP. As far as the LI Body Armor Titans, I really can’t put into words what that team and organization means to me. Every player on that team really pulls for each other and genuinely wants the best for everyone. We have Sean Lane (Maryland), Coltrane Calloway (Seton Hall), Dylan Johnson (St. John’s), Luke Orbon (St. John’s) and Rafe Schlesinger (Miami) committed to top D1 schools and it’s just a matter of time until our entire team is fully committed and I can’t wait.
Do you have any goals for 2020? What do you plan on doing this off-season to improve?
My main goal is to win the County Championship after losing it two years in a row. I also want to continue to help my teammates reach their goal of playing at the collegiate level. Personally, this winter I want to really focus on my weight training as well as continue to hit and field every week. There really is no off-season.
