Get to Know Timmy Mott

One of the best pitchers in the competitive CHSAA last season was Timmy Mott of Holy Trinity. He was effective all season including a postseason start against St. Dominic at Mitchel Field.

Mott must’ve really enjoyed pitching on the Mitchel Field mound, because yesterday he announced he will be playing his college ball on that field for Molloy. I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say…

Who are some of the toughest hitters you faced last year in the Catholic League?

In the Catholic League last year, some hitters were very hard to pitch against. One player was Matt Milone, every time he would get up to bat, Matt would always get himself into good counts that would force the pitcher to make a pitch he could take advantage of and drive into the gaps or over the fence. Another very good hitter in the league was Cameron Leary. This player always dominated anyone who was on the mound, no matter what type of pitches they threw him. Leary was one player I made sure to never throw a hittable pitch to, or else he would demolish the ball. One last player that was very dominant was Aidan Larkin. When I pitched against Aidan, he always hit the ball hard no matter where my pitch was thrown. He was by far one of the hardest hitters to get a swing-and-a-miss from, since he never tried to do too much when hitting and always stayed through every pitch.

Can you explain your experience with the college recruiting process and why you made your decision?

The college recruitment process is one of the most stressful things I have went through. Without the help from my coaches and family, I would not be in the situation I am today. When I first visited Molloy, I really loved the small campus feel and everything that went along with it. Also, the baseball team here has a winning mentality that I would really want to be a part of. So when I received the offer to attend Molloy, I gladly accepted.

Who are the biggest role models in your life and why?

The biggest role models in my life have always been my parents. Both my mom and dad have been my biggest supporters in everything I do, whether it would be school related or baseball. They always push me to be a better person than I was the day before, which is something I try to live by. My parents also attend almost every baseball game I have; cheering me on through out the good and bad times. They always push me in the right direction, which is truly  why they are my role models, and why I look up to them.

Who are your favorite players in Major League Baseball?

My favorite players in the MLB right now are Javy Baez and Noah Syndergaard   because of the confidence and swagger they play with whenever they are on the field.

Do you have any private instructors?

Yes, I have worked with Rob Savarese and Bobby DeMichael on my pitching mechanics throughout my high school career.

Do you have any superstitions?

I don’t really have any superstitions when playing, I just try to be loose and not be too serious whenever I step onto the mound.

Who are your favorite musical artists?

My favorite musical artists are Dababy and Drake.

What are your favorite apps on your phone?

MU favorite apps on my phone are Snapchat and Instagram.

What do you plan on working on this winter?

This winter, my goal is to get stronger and increase my velocity by 3 MPH from what it was last season.

What are your goals for 2020?

My goal for the upcoming season is to win Pitcher of the Year in the Catholic League and win a Championship for Holy Trinity before I graduate.
