Get to Know Nick Campagnuolo

Clarke Baseball had an incredible season in 2019–capturing the Nassau County Class A Championship with a hard-fought series win over Division. It was their first championship since 2013. One of their key pieces this season was SS Nick Campagnuolo. This week he announced his verbal commitment to the University of New Haven, a terrific Division-II program in Connecticut.

I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say…

Can you explain the feeling of winning the County Championship? In your opinion, why was the team able to be so successful?

Words can’t even describe the feeling of winning the County Championship with a great group of guys. Our journey to that County Championship will forever be the great moment in my life. I feel like we won because our team had so much chemistry and just cared about baseball which made us enjoy playing with each other.

Can you explain your experience with the college recruiting process and why you made your decision?

The college recruiting process was difficult at first but with the help of my teammates, coaches and parents they made it very easy for me. I chose the University of New Haven because the campus was very nice and the coaches were like coaches I’ve had before and I knew I would love it there.

Who are the biggest role models in your life and why?

The biggest role models in my life are my parents, teammates and coaches. My parents are the ones who gave me the opportunity to play this amazing sport. My teammates help me become better and make baseball so much fun to play with them. My coaches helped me a lot to become the person I am today which is a reason I love baseball.

Who are your favorite athletes in Major League Baseball and why?

My favorite players in baseball are Gleybar Torres and Mike Trout. They are my favorite players because they play baseball hard, enjoy baseball and don’t take their opportunities for granted.

Do you have any private instructors?

Yes, Greg Thompson and Rob Savarese. They brought me into my first travel team and helped me ever since.

Who is your favorite musical artist?

Lil Tecca.

Do you have any superstitions?

Yes, every time I get to the plate, clean the box, swipe a line across the dirt, hold my bat up for a second, then zone in for a pitch.

What are your goals for 2020? What are you planning to work on in the offseason to improve your game?

My goals for this upcoming season is to gain more weight and keep practicing on my hands for middle infield and my swing so I can become a better hitter and second baseman.
