The highly-anticipated third year of the Seven Tool Catching clinic is set to return on December 1.
Former Milwaukee Brewers farmhand and Axcess Baseball’s All-Decade member Charles Galiano began the company in 2017 and it has quickly grown to the point that the 12-week clinic has two venues and is separated into three age groups (elementary school, middle school and high school).
“Electric is the only way to describe it,” said Galiano. “We are really working on continuing to build the atmosphere. That is really what guys love about the program,” he said. The clinic is unique in the sense that it does not resemble the slow tempo or feel of a baseball game. When you walk in you notice the music blasting and a room full of athletes in full catching gear operating at high intensity for much of the 90 minute clinic.
“With the instructors we have and the intensity of the program the athletes have no choice but to get better,” said Galiano.
The elementary and middle school ages will be hosted at Team BEAST facility in Commack while the high school player will take place at The Sports Arena in St. James, which is a newly-renovated 15,000 square foot facility.
Once again, they have a number of great instructors in place along with Galiano such as Matt Reistetter (Washington Nationals), Brandon Coluccio (Baltimore Orioles), Rob Fiato (NYIT), T.J. Riccio (New Haven), Chris Russo (Iona), Billy Reidel (Oneonta) and Jake Lieberman (Southern Connecticut).
Galiano noted that the players are recorded for their baseline pop time and velocities on the first day and monitored through out. He stated that 95 percent of the previous attendees have seen improvement in their numbers.
Last year, they had a couple really interesting additions to the program.
- Special guest Milwaukee Brewers catching instructor Charlie Greene coming down to provide instruction one day
- Professional umpire discuss the importance of the catcher/umpire relationship
- Scout Day which featured college coaches from Division-II, Division-III and JuCo programs as well as two MLB scouts.
- Pro Pitcher Day in which the high school catchers caught a bullpen from a pro arm. Some of these pitchers included Nick Fanti, Greg Weissert, Jimmy Murphy, Keith Couch, Reiss Knehr, Chris Pike and Frankie Moscatiello.
The clinic will begin on December 1 and will conclude on March 1, right up until the high school baseball season.
