Plainview Hawks Defeat Greendogs in 8u Championship

by James Ryder

Sunday afternoon’s 8u Championship game at Plainedge Park featured light rain all game long. Thankfully, this didn’t put a damper on the affair. The Plainview Hawks were able to capture the title over the Farmingdale Greendogs, winning 3-1.

This game came down to the pitching and defense. Both teams struggled to get on base the first couple of innings. The Hawks behind starter Jonah Borg and the Greendogs with starter Dylan DiBlasi only allowed a combined 7 hits and 9 walks.

Plainview was the first to score. Two of their three runs came in the top of the third inning. After back-to-back walks from Matt Bandel and Frankie Schiebelhuth, Jonah Krolick brought both of them home on a 2 RBI double to right-center field.

Farmingdale’s lone run came in the bottom of the fourth. Michael Graziadei drew a leadoff walk and stole second and third base on two wild pitches. He came home on Jacob Lam’s RBI groundout to the shortstop.

The final run of the game came in the following frame. Plainview’s Ben Zweback hit a bullet comebacker off the pitcher’s glove for an RBI infield single that brought home Brody Adler.

Despite getting two men on including the tying run on second base, Farmingdale went down on three straight strikeouts to end the game. The rain couldn’t stop the Hawks from celebrating on the field and gathering for a picture with their trophies after the victory. Final Score: Plainview 3, Farmingdale 1.
