Syosset Braves’ Bats are Hot on Chilly Evening

Despite the chill in the October air, the bats of the 11U Syosset Braves were on fire in their 11-3 victory over Batting 1.000 this evening.

In what concluded their 2019 season, they went out on a positive note. They wasted no time early on, as they scored four runs in the top of the first inning. After a leadoff walk by Xavier Pultz and a stolen base, an error got him to third and he scored on a wild pitch to open up the scoring. Christian Eliane drove in a run with an RBI ground out, Michael Mifsud smoked an RBI triple to make it 3-0 and Asher DePierro extended the lead to 4-0 with an RBI single.

Matthew Waters was on the mound for the Braves. He worked around a leadoff walk and an infield single to strand both runners in the first.

The Braves tacked on a run in the second on an RBI single by Pultz to make it 5-0. He stole second but was stranded there to end the inning.

Batting 1.000 got on the board in the bottom of the second with a trio of runs. The first came across on a dropped third strike, then an E4 brought in their second run and an RBI single by Gianni Sorace made it 5-3.

Despite allowing them back into the game, the Syosset bats did not waiver in their confidence. They added four more runs in the third inning to break the game open. The big knock was an RBI triple by Christian Eliane, who scored on an interference call as he was running around first base during that hit. An RBI ground out and an unearned run added the eighth and ninth runs. Their 10th run crossed the plate on an RBI groundout by Waters.

With the victory, they improved to 5-5 on the fall season. The postseason will be played next weekend for the 11U division with the Finals being played on Sunday morning at Plainedge Park.
