Despite a shaky start, the Sharks Academy scratched out a 7-3 victory over the Long Island Titans to kick off their Columbus Day Tournament. The Sharks gave up a few runs in the first but were able to limit the damage and rally back for 7 runs.
The story for the Sharks ended up being their starting pitcher, Michael O’Grady. After giving up a few runs in the first it seemed that maybe it just didn’t happen to be his day on the mound. However, after finishing the inning and regaining his poise, Michael seemed dominant for the remainder of the game. He pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits while compiling 5 strikeouts. When asked about how he was able to settle in O’Grady said, “I just kept my composure the last few starts, and I know I had to get back into this one if I wanted to stay in the game.”
The scoring for the Sharks started in the 3rd on an RBI single from Joe Koches who finished the game 2-3 at the dish. Another pair of runs came in the 4th when Ethan Goldberg and Michael Manfredi both scored on passed balls.
The Sharks offense kept on churning in the 5th, putting up a 3 spot in the inning off an RBI single by Augustus Marovitis, and line drive off the left center field wall by Michael Merolla which scored Koches.
The teams final run was scored in the 6th when Koches again scored on a passed ball.
