Patience at the Plate Propels Greendogs to 10-3 Victory

Patience was certainly a virtue today for the 8U Farmingdale Greendogs as their plate discipline allowed them to draw 17 walks which led to six of their 10 runs in a 10-3 rout of the Plainview Hawks. Head Coach Mike LoGerfo was proud of his team’s ability to expand outside of the strike zone.

“The kids have definitely been controlling the zone–in Aaron Boone’s words,” said LoGerfo. “You can see we’re a pretty good team. The kids rally around each other. When Dylan DeBlasi came out early–he gave us two good innings–the teammates rallied around him. Ryan Bodt came in for him and finished it up–he did a nice job.”

The Hawks had taken an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI doble by Krish Suf to score Jonah Krolick.

That lead would not last long, though, as Blake Ferraiolo drove in Jacob Lam with a run-scoring ground out back to the mound. The game stayed tied until the top of the third when Jonah Krolick crushed an inside-the-park 2-R home run to score Jonah Lee and give the Hawks a temporary 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third, a parade of walks allowed the Greendogs to overcome the deficit an put up a five-spot to take a 6-3 lead. They were able to hold the Hawks scoreless in the top half of the fourth to maintain their lead despite a runners on first & third situation.

They blew the game wide open in the bottom of the inning thanks to five walks. They scored two runs. In the fifth, they opened up a 10-3 lead on an RBI single by Ferraiolo and an RBI ground out by Ryan Bodt.

The boys could not have had a better September day to play ball in the beautiful facility of Pops Field in Farmingdale.
