Steven Santos & New York Angels Roll to 12-2 Victory

Sometimes big-time sluggers can just take over a game as we’ve seen plenty of time during the 2019 MLB season. That was the case this afternoon at Plainedge Park when Steven Santos was a man among boys in the 12U Northeast Elite tournament.

The 12-year-old went 2-for-2 with 3 RBI including two triples in a 12-2 run-rule victory for the New York Angels over Dodgers Nation.

He got their offense going in the bottom of the first on his first triple of the afternoon. He drove in T.J Bradford, who drew a two-out walk. After the triple, he scored on a wild pitch, which gave the Angels a 2-1 lead. The Dodgers initially took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first on an RBI single by pitcher Matt Pilgrim.

The Angels would never look back in this one.

They added a run in the third on an RBI ground out by Ernesto Ortiz to score Julliam Gutierrez. An RBI double by Bradford made it 4-1 and after back-to-back walks they broke the game wide open on a bases-clearing double by Eric DeJesus.

Trailing 7-1 in the fourth, Dodgers Nation showed some life in the fourth. JoJo Galeotafiore ripped an RBI single to core Nicholas Piccoli, who reached on an error.

Unfortunately, that’s as close as they would get in this one. The Angels scored five runs in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Ortiz, an RBI ground out and another triple by Santos and a double by Kalup Traylor.

The run made it a 10-run ballgame which ended it early. The coach spoke highly of his team’s ability to remain consistent all season despite their grueling schedule. He also stated that the team is comprised of players from Bronx, Manhattan and Long Island so the players have had to work on getting familiar with one another.

They will be back in action tomorrow morning at 8:30am.
