The LI Titans overcame an early first inning deficit and held off a late-inning rally by the Kings Park Knights to win 5-3 in the 12U Northeast Elite tournament.
In the bottom of the first, the Knights used a lead off single by Anthony Lobasso, a stolen base and an RBI ground out to take a 1-0 lead.
That lead did not last very long as the Titans scored two runs in the top of the second on a two-run single by Kip Zacharia. It was a two-out hit that scored Trey Hansen and Derek Minden. Zacharia was thrown out attempting to stretch his hit into a double.
In the top of the third, the Titans extended their lead to 4-1 on a big two-run double by Charlie Pipa. They added another insurance run on an RBI ground out by Noah Kim.
The Knights would not go down without a fight, though.
They got one back in the fourth inning on a wild pitch to score Jake Hutter, who singled to left.
More drama occurred in the sixth inning when the first two runners reach base safely, to put the tying run at the plate. They were able to get one run on a sac fly by Smith but a soft grounded ended this one.
