Jordan Konig Hits Walk-Off Single for Commack Crushers

What an outstanding game was played tonight to open up the Blue Chip Prospect Northeast Elite 12u tournament. The game was played at Cantiague Park and featured several lead changes, but ultimately it was Jordan Konig who would deliver a walk-off single in the bottom of the sixth inning to deliver the 10-9 victory for the Commack Crushers.

The game began with the Tri-State Arsenal getting out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to a two-run single by Alex Wayne to drive in Thomas Walsh and Jayden Eavens. It seemed like it would be all Arsenal tonight but the Commack squad brought their sticks too.

They immediately tied it up on an RBI single by Ryan Bush, who came around to score on an errant throw by the catcher when he had stole second base.

The Crushers even opened up a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI single to right field by Luke McDonough, their No. 10 hitter in the lineup which showed that they would be getting contributions from everyone on the team. An unearned run followed by an RBI single by Tucker Brown extended the lead to 5-2.

Before they could let the game get out of reach, the Arsenal bounced back with three runs in the top of the third with the tying run scoring on Andrew Piccirillo‘s RBI single to score Joe Aronica.

In the home half of the third inning, the Crushers opened up an 8-5 lead on an RBI triple to right field by Harrison Glickstein, a sac fly by Shiney Scheinman and another RBI single by McDonough.

The Arsenal used their power to cut the deficit to 8-7 in the fourth on a two-run home run by Eavens to right field. They nearly tied it up after a triple by the powerful Miguel Sime but he was stranded there to end the inning on a ground out to first.

The Crushers extended their lead to 9-7 in the fifth on an RBI triple by Scheinman but an unassisted double play on a line drive to second ended the threat. They had runners at second and third but the ball was smoked directly at the fielder who stepped on second to end the jam.

TSA would not go down without a fight. They tied it up in the top of the sixth on back-to-back RBI singles by Aronica and Piccirillo to make it 9-9. With the time limit looming and the Crushers looking to win the game, their first two batters were retired in order, but a two-out hit by Tucker and stolen base set the stage for Konig who sent the home crowd home happy with a clean single.

It was a wildly entertaining game on both sides, but a thrilling victory for the Crushers who look to stay hot tomorrow when they take on LI Storm at 1:30.
