Noah Lorenzo Transfers to New York Tech

Another big time arm is headed to Westbury,

Noah Lorenzo announced today that he will be transferring to New York Tech upon completing his degree from Long Island University in the spring. This means he will sit out the 2020 season, but be back for the 2021 season with the Bears.

The Bears are already loaded for 2020 with transfer pitchers Bobby Vath, Andrew Imperatore and Tyler Schmid coming over. They also have Brandon Alberto and Matt Bartnik returning from missing the 2019 World Series campaign. They figure to be extremely dangerous once again coming off a 37-win season.

Lorenzo is a 2016 graduate of St. John the Baptist. The southpaw is a unique pitcher in the sense that he relies heavily on his fastball-changeup combination, and often times he works off his change up. He sits in the mid-to-upper 70s and that was extremely effective as he always pitched following the hard-throwing James Varela. Those contrasting styles tied opposing teams into knots.

He was outstanding in 2019 with the Pioneers.

The left-handed pitcher fired 98.2 innings, compiling a record of 10-4 with a stout 2.55 ERA. Incredibly, seven of his 13 starts resulted in complete games. He was a big reason that the Pioneers captured the 2019 ECC Championship this season.

While he won’t have an impact on the field in 2020, his veteran presence and knowledge could prove invaluable to the young pitchers on the Bears’ staff, much the way Alberto’s presence helped this past season.

Success often leads to more success. With the improbable 2019 World Series run leading to an influx of talented incoming players, don’t count on any sort of drop off for the Bears this season.
