Bronx Warriors Fire On All Cyclinders in Saturday Afternoon Victory

It’s hard to come out in better fashion than the Bronx Warriors did on Saturday afternoon against the Massapequa Cyclones. The 11U squad did just about everything right in order to build an insurmountable first inning lead. They put up 10 runs, sending 14 batters to the plate against two pitchers.

They got going right away as lead off batter Luis Hernandez drew a walk and scored when Nathaniel Bisceglie drove a double and an interference on the shortstop resulted in the first run coming across the board. They added their second and third runs on a ground ball to the third baseman off the bat of Chris Luna that resulted in a two-run error that score Bisceglie and Javier Mejia. They added their fourth run on a bases loaded walk to Ethan Jimenez. A fielder’s choice + two-run error was the fifth and sixth run. An RBI ground out by Luis Hernandez brought home the second run and another error made it 8-0. The big blow came off the bat of Javier Mejia who crushed a game-breaking two-run shot to make it 10-0. A new pitcher came on to put out the fire.

Saul Velez got the start and worked around two walks to throw a scoreless first inning thanks to a well-executed 4-6-3 DP.

The scoring was not done.

In fact, another HR occurred in the second inning. This one was off the bat of Ethan Jimenez to score Justin Otis and Robert Irizarry. The score was now 13-0 and effectively over. They added two more runs to make it 15-0 which is the run-rule after three innings.

The victory was an impressive one as the Warriors were even able to get their starting pitcher out of the game early in order to preserve his arm.

The Warriors actually went on to lose their 5:30pm game against the LI Pride by the score of 13-12. The Cyclones will take on the LI Pride at 7:30pm tonight. The playoffs will be Sunday and the championship will be Monday at Wantagh Park at 9am.
