With the conclusion of the summer season typically comes a flurry of college commitments as players decide where they’d like to continue their baseball playing career and college coaches ready to solidify their next crop of incoming players.
This year is no different as the passed weak has featured several players announcing their verbal commitments. Here’s how it went down.
Gavin McAlonie (Miller Place) – Molloy College
Quick Hit: Raised his stock significantly beginning with his 4-for-4 performance against Shoreham-Wading River back in late April when Aidan Crowley was going for his fourth consecutive no-hitter in front of a huge crowd. Since then, he proved he is an impact player every step of the way especially with his in-game performances with Body Armor. He also throws 83 off the mound and runs a 6.7 60. Also had a 1290 on the SAT.
Dante DiMarco (Calhoun) – St. Joseph’s College
Quick Hit: He is athletic enough to play both catcher in the infield, as I’ve watched him at a couple showcases. He comes from a good baseball family, his father coaches a LI Titans team. At the Div-III level he should compete for a starting spot.
Drew Vincent (Commack) – SUNY Oneonta
Quick Hit: Put himself on the map when he defeated Connetquot at Baseball Heaven in a game that was supposed to feature Joe Savino vs Jake Krzemienski. Vincent stole the show and proved he’s able to handle that environment. In the postgame interview that day, he really represented himself well. It’s no surprise he’s a 4.0 student. Judging by his Perfect Game page, he has added 17 miles to his velocity since entering high school and is now topping at 83 MPH.
Frankie Collora (Ward Melville) – SUNY Cortland
Quick Hit: It is no fault of his own that he resides in a pitcher’s factory like Ward Melville that makes it extremely difficult to crack the starting three. This past season, the Patriots had the Yaz Award winner in Max Nielsen, not to mention Ryan Hynes and Chris Vivenzio so I’m not sure how much more innings were up for grabs but with Nielsen at UCONN that number one spot is up for grabs. Could it be Collora? The righty has added 8 MPH to his velocity since last year and has now topped at 87 MPH. He’s a high-end student as well with a 3.6 GPA and 1230 SAT.
Tommy Ventimiglia (Longwood) – Stony Brook University
Refer to yesterday’s article for the skinny on him.
Ziv Gar (Plainview JFK) – Molloy College
Quick Hit: Gar put himself on the map two years ago as a sophomore during Plainview’s conference championship season. He’s a mentally tough pitcher that touches 85 MPH with the ability to go deep into games.
