Add another accomplishment to his young career.
Logan O’Hoppe (St. John the Baptist 2018) will appear in tonight’s New York Penn League All-Star Game at Richmond County Bank Ballpark (Staten Island Yankees home field). The game begins at 7pm, but the gates will open at 3pm for spectators. Expect a large contingent of friends and family for the wildly popular 19-year-old phenom.
O’Hoppe has five home runs, 20 runs scored and 26 RBI through 44 games this season. He was recently named Philadelphia Phillies minor league hitter of the month after he crushed five home runs in one month. He is also regarded as one of the best defensive catchers in the Phillies’ system.
Fans will be treated to an incredible day, and that’s even before the first pitch is thrown.
Former Yankee great Bernie Williams, Bucky Dent and Mickey Rivers will be on hand. Bernie Williams was a member of the Oneonta Yankees during the 1987 season, which participated in the New York Penn League. He will be among four players getting inducted in the NYPL Hall of Fame. He will throw out the first pitch.at approximately 6:40pm.
Mickey Rivers and Bucky Dent are World Series winners that were a part of the 1977-78 teams that defeated the Dodgers both years. Dent, also known as Bucky F***** Dent in Boston, hit the legendary home run in 1978 that helped the Yankees overcome a 13-game deficit against the Red Sox. In the tiebreaker game, they trailed 2-0 in the seventh, but Dent’s 3-R shot against Mike Torrez was the difference. They will be signing autographs before the game.
At 5:30pm there will be a Home Run Derby between members of the New York Police Department and the Fire Department of New York.
O’Hoppe’s past two years have been a joy to watch. He has risen from a Division-I commit to Rawlings Gold Glove winner to MLB Draft Pick and now a Minor League All-Star. All by the age of 19. Don’t bet against him rising through the system and eventually winding up at Citizens Bank Park.
