Ryan Daza Shines in Heat-Soaked Game

With the temperatures in the upper 90s, this game promised to be a challenge for all players involved. After a slog of a first inning, Ryan Daza was facing the prospect of a potentially short outing as the Junior Ducks had bases loaded and nobody out.

The Forest Hills-native was not about to give in though.

He was able to bear down and allow just one run to cross the plate on a sacrifice fly from Evan Rodrigues. He escaped further damage which proved to be crucial as the Tri State Arsenal came away with a 4-2 victory over the Junior Ducks in a 15U Boys of Summer match up on Sunday evening.

In the top of the second, the TSA tied it up on an RBI single by Dan Kirtman to score Anthony Maniscalco. They took the lead in the top of the third inning on a wild pitch that scored Jake Maloney. He led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a single by Ryan Paladino and advanced on a ground out to second.

Daza dazzled from there on out, as he didn’t allow another run in his five innings of work. He even added an insurance run on an inside-the-park home run that was basically a frozen rope to center that the center fielder misjudged. He acknowledged after the game that he thought the ball would get caught and that he was gassed after that. His work was done after that.

Matt Sarni came on in relief to throw the sixth inning. He allowed an RBI single to Evan Rodrigues but the game was ended when Rodrigues was thrown out attempting to steal second base.
